Star Wars and Star Trek are considered very different by fans and critics alike. Star Trek TOS was released on September 8, 1966, but only airing three seasons before ending up on the chopping block. The idea of sexual and racial equality and the idea of humanity growing in scientific knowledge and understanding to better everyone rather than violence and war was too early for its time. On 27 October 1977, George Lucas released his most successful movie Star Wars.(Only after the prequels were filmed and the blue-ray edition added did the name change to Star Wars A New Hope) It showed how a farm boy who wanted to be more, to be 'alive', became the hero of hope and freedom when he blew up the biggest threat to the galaxy at that time, the Death Star (1).

A constant question with, well everyone who knows the two is what is the difference, and what is the same with the two.

Star Wars and Star Trek are very different in many, many more ways than one. But one main principle separates them, it makes them, what they are and shapes them. For Star Trek the principle or more accurately the idea is being the best we can be, to trade our violent tendencies, our racial views and our selfish greeds for a united humanity that collectively seeks to better itself in every way. To explore and find new life. Money is abolished and people work... just to contribute to society. Poverty is abolished on UFP worlds and human well being is at a high. every episode (Especially TOS) deals with problems in the modern world, just tweaked to fit the scene. A lot of aliens in the galaxy are modelled off our attributes, the Klingons always warring and fighting, the Romulans always paranoid, sneaking and spying, the Ferengi, greedy and self-serving. To sum it up the UFP is an image of what is best about humanity. Star Wars is about a repressive and dominating force of xenophobes, and war lovers. It controls the galaxy with millions of Star Destroyers and billions of Stormtroopers, Geroge Lucas told reporters that a lot of the designs and names for The Empire and the general feel was based off Nazi Germany. And then a small handful of rebellers, people from all walks of life that have the courage and strength to openly fight against the oppressors (much like the French Resistance in WWII) they fight for the hope of freedom.

In a way Star Wars and Star Trek aren't that different after all, sure one uses Photon Torpedoes instead of Proton Torpedoes and Warp-Drives instead of Hyperdrives. But they both show how to be the best person, the UFP are xenophiles and the Rebellion is to, both want all to be equal and free, both to begone of war and only fight for peace. In an essance they both teach us how to be the best...us, to care for one another no matter the race or social status, to fight for peace.

Thanks for reading my post, PLEASE add your oppinion to the matter and what you think about my view on the both. In the mean time, live long and prosper and may the force be with you!
