Is there a consensus of it being Jem'Hadar? Or even a stowaway?
That's the idea we been playing around with, first as a stowaway, now trying figure the type of stowaway. The admin here are leaning toward a Jem'Hadar stowaway and I supplied some reasons why. I think it'd be the most likely character seeing that he is probably trying to start a life for himself as a possible defector. I also like the idea that he was an enemy of Starfleet that a) will eventually help the crew with problems that may occur and b) some of the crew may help in spite of the history with the Jem'Hadar.

What you think? We'll probably end up doing a vote.

That's cool, too haha but I want it to be something more relatable and tied to the war, something messier. I'm wanting it to be a humanoid that needs food, maybe an adolescent Jem'Hadar that requires food for nourishment? But, I hoping he'd have a history of fighting against Starfleet. AND if we make it that he doesn't need ketracel-white, he'll have to get food and sleep somehow. Since he never needed the white, he may never have felt a "loyalty" to the Founders.

Fair enough. Interestingly, and reasonably OT, I went back and played Facility 4028 in STO and got my Jem'Hadar Tac BOff. Not sure why I didn't do that the first pass ... but I digress.

Jem'Hadar would be interesting, but it would look pretty bad for the Captain, First Officer, and the Chief of Security officers. Not to mention, bad for DS9 related officers in Security.

Meaning, as 'interesting' as it seems, the sheer unbelievable nature of how a Jem'Hadar former warrior breached the security protocols on DS9 *and* on the USS ARES would reflect very poorly on any officers in those chains of command. Kind of like a US Naval ship Captain having run his ship aground or colliding with another ship while he was sleeping.

What would that do to the confidence in those officers responsible? Fleet Command toward the Captains (DS9 and ARES). Captains of DS9 and ARES toward their Chiefs of Security. The Chiefs of Security at their Security Officers. Trust and confidence would be low. Something like this is not a small deal. You wouldn't say, "Oh well, don't worry about it, you'll get it right next time."

No, those people involved in the entire field of Security basically failed in their jobs. Horribly.

"It's ok, Ensign. Don't worry that you just steered the ship into an asteroid. It could happen to the best of us..." Uh, no. That ensign would be relieved and never sit helm again.

"It's ok, Lieutenant, don't worry that the warp core had to be ejected due to you and your team not performing the required maintenance. You all were busy with other stuff." Uh, no again. That Chief Engineer and his senior officers would be held accountable.

Unless this Jem'Hadar is some Q-like super ninja, I would have to believe that Starfleet Security protocols would detect that an intruder was aboard, DS9 and the ARES. Enough to the point where Security would begin their sweeps and search. Which would throw a lot of the casual conversations and stuff going on into a litlte disarray.

Which I think would take away much of the focus on the characters and focus entirely on the Jem'Hadar and stowaway.

TL;DNR... I think it is a bit early to introduce a stow away. They would detract from the 'getting to know the characters' and take much of the foreground and focus. Not to mention, I think there would be negative consequences for those responsible, when they may not want it or feel that they look incompetent when they were powerless to stop this super Q-ninja Jem'Hadar.

Perhaps later on, maybe at one of the cardassian worlds were the ARES stops at to provide aid. Instead of at the initial start on the vaunted Deep Space 9, which likely has the best anti-Dominion security protocols as they have the most experience and knowledge against them.

I like the idea of a Jem'Hadar stowaway. There are a lot of possibilities for growth with this character, such as how he came to be on his own and meeting some of our characters who fought them in the Dominion War. I'll vote "yes" on this as an option.

Jem'Hadar would be interesting, but it would look pretty bad for the Captain, First Officer, and the Chief of Security officers. Not to mention, bad for DS9 related officers in Security.

Did you do know Jem'Hadar can shroud themselves? They can literally cloak for periods of time and thus could evade security fairly easily. Knowing about a stowaway and being able to deal with them are 2 different things. My character and the Jem'Hadar have a history as he is a Dominion War veteran so, since my character is the Chief Tactical Officer and thus the Chief of Security, I'll see about introducing him once we depart DS9.

That's a really good point. Think of all the times we've had intruders in ST and the crew didn't know? Alien possessions and everything. There would be clues around the ship, but they wouldn't realize til it somehow was revealed. Did we think any less of Worf? Was Worf disciplined or the command crew for these alien intruders?

That's why I lean toward the Jem'Hadar using a Shroud; they have the ability to "cloak" themselves to avoid capture, using it against Starfleet many times, seeming to vanish into thin air.

Starfleet security has been bypassed many times, in all series, that's where the idea is coming from. Think of the Changlings, the Ceti eels, and the mysterious race of "parasitic beings." We don't think less of Starfleet security, we just need to adapt again for next time.

I like the idea of a Jem'Hadar stowaway. There are a lot of possibilities for growth with this character, such as how he came to be on his own and meeting some of our characters who fought them in the Dominion War. I'll vote "yes" on this as an option.

Right, that's exactly what I'm thinking. Don't run with the stowaway idea just yet, we just want to drop hints that he's aboard from time to time. We're thinking about focusing on him more after we get to the Cardassian colonies. I'm all about you introducing a "possible intruder" or something like that, but not yet, I think it's too early for us to focus on him. I still want more interaction from the crew and building up of the voyage, then slip him in. That makes sense?

That makes perfect sense. Too early and we'll be back at DS9 to drop him off there when we should be out exploring. A few missions in would work better than introducing him right away so we can develop our characters and interactions with each other before throwing in a new element to the story. Once at the colonies, we can explain one had Dominion facilities on it (birthing facility maybe?) as a reason why we end up with a Jem'Hadar on board.

We already established he's onboard through Eagle's post, though not officially "introduced" he slipped in when a power surge took place in an earlier post. We're just not interacting with him yet til the colonies.

Coming onboard from a colony would have been a good idea.

I remember that post from Eagle's talk with Colonel Kira on security issues and our Diplomatic officer chatting with a junior officer on that power surge subject now. Thanks for the reminder.

It's nice having some future story ideas getting planned out early. It helps getting the creative juices flowing.

Without much interaction, can that be "retconned" to fit the narrative we are developing about this detail?

I mean, should a new thread be created on this subject?
