BIG UPDATE :

Ares Guide updated to add what was said here just before
Zach joined the crew of the USS Ares as Lieutenant JG Zachary Donaldson, Lieutenant Riker's assistant: welcome to him !
Generator also joined the crew as Lieutenant JG James Cole, deuZige's sidekick: welcome to him too !
I decided to open a few more positions on the ship (the already opened positions are still available of course):

- Squadron Chief Technician
- Engineering/Operation/Tactical Officers (2 positions - character will answer to Lieutenant Simon Riker if Engineering is selected, Lieutenant Gytaik Oma if Operations is selected or Lt. Commander Dyrell Teriir if Tactical is selected)
- Science/Medical Officers (2 positions - character will answer to Lieutenant Allan Hood if Science is selected or Lt. Commander Angus Hems if Medical is selected)

I just finished my character. I'll be posting his bio soon but I wanted to bring up a few things I researched about cannon here before doing so. It'll help clear up a few things about him and also help with some inspiration for others on developing their character bios too.

He's only 24 and already a Lt. Commander. The only reasonable answer for this is that he joined Starfleet Academy at a very young age and participated in the Dominion War. It was mentioned in the DS9 Season 6 Episode "Valiant" that there were cadets on board the USS Valiant as young as 15. My character was 16 at the time the war began. Seeing USS Valiant being crewed by Red Squad Cadets, Nog's service on DS9 and USS Defiant as a cadet, and orders given during DS9 Season 4 Episode "Paradise Lost" for cadets to enter field duty, supports the idea that many cadets were pressed into service during crisis, such as the Dominion War. Nog's promotion to Lt. Jg after the war also supports the idea many cadets were granted official ranking status once the war concluded. This also helps explain how my character moved up the ranks so quickly, being a "war born" officer.

I think this is a great backstory, I'll have to read it straight away. Are you planning on having some mental issues that usually occur for young people during and after battle?

Yes and no. He has some but the issues are extremely minor, nothing a talk or 2 with a councilor can't help, in comparison to what it could've been. I think I'll let the bio do most of the explaining as to why.

That's really cool, I like how the backstory tunes right into the show. It's weird to think of a "war born" officer in ST, but it's post-Dominion War, interesting concept while Starfleet is trying to get back to exploring, might be a rough transition for the character. Reminds me of old vets talking about the war and how hard it was and how easy we have it.
