Father: Gytaik Ussaro, currently a tenured professor of linguistics at the University of Bajor.
Mother: Gytaik Zilke (née Irosh Zilke), an archaeologist and expert on the ancient history of Bajor.
Siblings: Oma is the eldest of three daughters. Her younger sisters are Gytaik Erduta, 26, who is a Prylar monk working at the Vedek Assembly; and Gytaik Nerjilo, 22, a talented musician.

Her weakness, by her own admission, is her “Bajoran temper” which has got her into trouble a few times.

History
Personal History:
Born in 2351 on Vulcan where her paternal grandparents had sought asylum during the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. The eldest of three daughters born to two prominent academics, she was encouraged to achieve academically from an early age. Oma showed an innate talent for languages, encouraged by her father who was a professor of linguistics at ShiKahr Academy. After the occupation ended in 2369, an 18 year old Oma and the rest of her family returned to Bajor.
Having graduated at the age of 21 from the University of Bajor with a first class degree in linguistics, Oma turned her eyes to the stars. She successfully applied for Starfleet Academy where she graduated as part of the class of 2379 with honours in both exolingustics and exobiology, as well as distinctions in geology and stellar cartography.

2379: Graduated from Starfleet Academy; posted as a junior operations officer to the USS Imladris under the command of Admiral Saelanna Navan.
2381: Promoted to Lieutenant and posted as Operations Officer to the USS Ares in preparation for the Semper Exploro Project.
