Did anyone else know that Data was the science officer?? He even graduated with honors in exobiology and probability mechanics.

When I was a kid, I always thought that Data should have a science uniform due to everything he did while working with La Forge.

Why didn't they give him a blue uniform??

I think it would have been that he dealt with a lot of technical and engineering problems, that's why he worked with Gordie, this would have been really cool though, on the other hand maybe it didn't match the colour of his eyes.

Yeah, I could buy that he doesn't look good in that would've been on the show. Even right now, the makeup just does not go well with that blue.

To be honest Data could have been EVERYTHING all at once and he'd still have been better than most of the crew. I guess as an android his only real drawbacks were lack of emotions, his pure computational power would have made him a good choice for almost any position on board, all he'd have to do was plug into the computer to learn the knowledge (which i guess he could do Matrix style?)

I don't know if I can go that far haha. He technically can function in any position, but being diplomatic and a commanding officer will be difficult; he can't read people well and people have a hard time relating to him.

I'm not trying to be biased here. I really think that going by the top pick, unless it was a paler shade of blue, I don't think blues would work with the makeup they used.

Also you can't say he wouldn't be a commanding officer considering he was the Captain of the Enterprise-E for the longest time.

I thought the function of the position dictated the color of the uniform, not the specialty of the person wearing it. This, obviously, does not apply to temporary assignments.

Por ejempla, Beverly was in Command Red in "All Good Things…" while she was commanding the Pasteur.

Also, Janeway was a Science Officer, but when she was promoted to Captain and given Voyager, she switched to Command Red.

Wasn't he both the Science officer and Operations officer? In which case as the Operations officer he could have worn the Gold instead of the blue looking at it based on Harry on Voyager who pretty much did a lot of the same things Data did.
