[Discussion] - Excelsior Torpedo Launchers

It's a beautiful ship model now but is it me or are the torpedo launchers a little too high on the neck? It looks like they'll fire straight into the sensor dome.

The ship has 4 torpedo bays in the forward section, however I think they have only shown the lower two bays being used. The upper bays have been shown with worker bees using them for access. Their path does appear to be blocked, not sure how they are supposed to work.

Oddly, I think Welshavenger might be correct, on the the ingame model the torpedo launchers do seem to be placed too high on the neck. In the screenshots above their path is seemingly blocked by the protruding hull on the ventral side of the saucer. Unless the launchers can be angled to avoid that?

The neck has always been that way though.

maybe those "neck" torpedo launchers are/were used only when the saucer was separated? Excelsior's were supposed to be among the first ships to feature saucer separation that could also reconnect without the assistance of a starbase.

No, the Excelsior was shown to fire torpedos from those launchers in Star Trek VI.

The Torpedo Launchers are not on the neck.

Actually the master systems display does classify those two openings as torpedo tubes. But I believe the can also launch work bees

Looking at an in-universe shot, the openings do look on the high side so the model appears to be correct. We've only seen torps fired from the launchers either side of the deflector housing though.
