I've managed 3rd in every single run so far and i'm not sure why. It does seems that some people just aren't really....trying? Not sure if that is the right word, although i did see a few AFK'ers in some runs sadly.

Healing plays a part, so getting semi-vaped in a blast and healing back up really helps your placement.

I've run it 3 times so far on 4 different characters (12 runs total since the event started). So long as I haven't blown up, I've received 3rd place almost everytime playing adv queue (my alts aren't highly geared, but do have at least Very Rare MK XII for most things). Got 1st place on my main character too. It's still pretty easy.

It could be that bug where your ship is stuck in place at the start with the shields down, I got it twice. I had to log out and log back to fix it, more than likely they haven't figured this out if that's the case.

No these were full on AFK players. At least one i saw blow up right in front of me (it was quite easy to spot as it was a fairly rare Na'kuhl ship) and then he never respawned.
Another time the 2 guys in one match were sitting out beyond the start point not moving, they must have actually flown there to get away from the start area.

Went 2 for 3 on my runs last night, 2 1st and 1 3rd, all three on my New Intel Dreadnought I just got the ship for the trait but after using it I fell in love with the boat

I'm waiting for the Destroyers to come out as I love the New Orleans design, I hope that there's a decent build I can make out of it as the hull seems a little light but I think that 5 Emitter and sensor linked phasers will make short work of enemies. Add in a couple of omni phasers and an experimental weapon on a Drake build and you get a lot of global cooldown fun.

Managed to get 1st place in a shoddy Daedalus/Nautilus class build, despite getting EVERY SINGLE THOLIAN attacking only me for some reason. lol
That was a pretty hectic fight, didn't expect to get a ranking at all as it felt pretty poor.

On the only guy I've got doing this, I'm 8/14 as of last night. I missed a bunch of runs on account of family vacations (Finger Lakes and Hershey Park).

The frustrating thing is, before this event started, I was sure I had a character with a few shards in reserve, so I could complete the event in less than two weeks. But when I started my run last Monday, I couldn't find which character had them. Jump to last night, and naturally, I stumbled across those shards on my Klingon scientist. Oh well, I guess I'm ahead of the game for next time.

Yeah I did something similar. I started running it meticulously on my Romulan toon only to find I had 8 shards sat in his bank already so I didn’t need to run so many! Could have saved myself some time there but no real issue.

General Ghorrin is really gonna cut this one close. I know we can keep Rep projects, but if I don't finish this one it's gonna be like having the figurative piece of food caught in one's teeth until it's finished.

Interesting thing this morning: I logged on before the kids woke up (because I would not get a chance the rest of the day, thus losing a shard shot). As the mission is loading I get DC'd. Frantically reslotting the USB cord, I logged into the event and gunned it for the CE.

Parked at about 9km, Scarlett ordered to open fire (not Fire At Will because ... Tholians). Seeing the shields get pounded more than usual, the camera panned around and ... Scarlett was soloing the CE ...

Respawning, a few other ships appeared, but Scarlett was not in a group.

And that's how it went for a couple more rounds.

Scarlett got the shard, but every Captain ability, support buff and reinforcement slot is on cooldown Aaaand the ship will need some repairs when I log in next time.
