Its a really bizarre attitude CBS is taking with all this. Seems that they are desperate to keep everything under their control and even going after a few fans making something in their spare time seems a bit harsh.
That Axanar thing was different as it was clearly trying to compete with the Kelvin films, or any new shows, but everything else seems small fry for them to worry about.
The crazy thing is though, they seem to want to force people to stick with their brand, with their pay-2-view sites etc. But people aren't interested in that, and it's clear as day to anyone with half a brain. Force us to watch DSC on demand for a price - we'll just private it from plenty of sources. Same with overpriced DVD/Bluray prices. Shut down all the fan creations and people will just lose interest in the franchise. Makes no sense.

fans making something in their spare time seems a bit harsh.
The moment they added VR to the project, it started competing with Bridge Crew. From a legal standpoint, CBS had every right. Heavy handed? Yes. But I wouldn't be surprised if the modders who worked on this project aren't finding emails from game devs or tv/movie studios looking for talent.

The Stage 9 Project had generated a lot of buzz. I saw it featured on a number of websites. Which is likely why CBS dropped the hammer on them. I honestly had forgotten about Excalibur until you mentioned it. If it's not getting headlines it's probably not on CBS's radar.
I am angry at CBS for doing this btw. They weren't doing it for profit & they didn't even ask for donations. Yet it has to go away. Because they didn't make any money on licensing. Along with this takes attention away from Discovery and the forthcoming series that are hidden behind a paywall.
There's a reason CBS wants more Trek on All Access. How many subscribed only to cancel after Discovery's season ended? I know I did because I can still watch TNG, DS9, VOY, & ENT on Netflix and without commercials. They are essentially making Star Trek a cash cow much like Disney has done with Marvel and even Star Wars.
It's really very sad to me. I can't imagine how the Stage 9 guys feel. They did an excellent job and I had hoped to see the project finished.

Well it was only a matter of time, CBS is realy hard trying to get rid of the fans and personaly I have to say with everything going on I am loosing my interrest in future Star Trek.
CBS have done nothing but shoot themselves in the foot.
Its ridiculous.
I'm giving serious consideration to leaving Star Trek Online
As I detest the Discovery **** show.
Plus this CBS nonsense. Driving a fan of 30+ years out.
