I originally wasn't down with us getting involved with the Kelvin Universe, but hey. It was a fun enjoyable romp with what they did. I'm sure that the STO team will do awesome here.

I'm with Solace, about mid season Discovery got better. They need more character development though. I mean, there are people on the bridge I don't know the first thing about. I guess TOS was similar in that you don't get much backstory at all for Sulu, Uhura, etc.

...if you like Discovery. Seems like the new way of things with Star Trek as of late. I'm not saying you shouldn't like it, but man, I have never seen anyone try to push a reboot so hard, and I've seen a lot of crappy reboots. Well, that's not true. Star Wars is pushing harder, but that's a bigger franchise.

That's what it seems like to me, but I won't speculate on ratings or majority opinions or whatever. I personally don't like it, doesn't mean I hate everyone who does like it. It's like the new Star Wars. The one thing that's certain is that it is the most "controversial" (for lack of a better word) and divisive addition to the franchise. The fanbase is split more than it's ever been, even more than it was with the Kelvin timeline. I think it's the fact that they're trying to make Discovery part of the prime Star Trek timeline that makes some people question it a lot more. At the end of the day, only time will tell. We'll see where it goes.

I too would love some WoK era stuff! Not a whole lot they could do with it, but I'd appreciate the effort! After all, it was just one movie compared to a whole series.

I don't know where it'll go, but I don't think STO has dedicated this much time to a single update or expansion, more than half a year of updates specifically related to Discovery.

At the same time, Cryptic pushing DSC on the players does not mean it's everywhere. Push through the missions to do them, but after that it should be relatively easy to roll-eyes at the rest of it. Sure, people will buy-n-fly the DSC ships as they come around, but then they'll settle back into their favored designs and style.

Look at the glorious Excelsior: Cryptic updated the skin and you saw A LOT of toons flying in them. Within two-weeks, it looks like I'm the only one using it ... again, lol. But seriously, that's the turn of the wheel.

To be sure, I fully appreciate the idea that Star Trek, as a franchise, is in a slump of sorts with DSC being what it is and the movies getting stalled because of money. So, if STO is the shining beacon in the franchise, then it's no surprise it be a prop-up for DSC, none at all.

And if it brings in new players to help the game grow, and even UFP to keep the Fleet strong, then I say rock on.

I agree, I wish those dilithium uniforms would be dropped down a peg or two, and I say that as someone who spent a few months worth of lifetime zen to convert to dilithium to get the Enterprise M.A.C.O. uniform that I'd been waiting for for so long. Was it worth it? Hell yes, it was. Do I regret it? A bit, now that I would have used that zen on a new ship. Also, they couldn't even let us customize every part of it, the belt and pack straps remain that dull tan color no matter what. But damn, I really do want that excursion coat...

Going back to the thread title and topic....

Looking at the January graphic, we can see it's the I.S.S. Discovery, which means we're gonna get some missions that deal with Captain Killy. I'm assuming it's during the time when her ship swapped places with the U.S.S. Discovery in the Mirror Universe. Also, will we be seeing Disco Mirror Universe uniforms added then too?

As for the new TV show, I think I'm trying to be open-minded about the Star Trek: Disco. It's not the best as I really miss that character development and their stories being told. It feels like a random set of people on a ship that we really don't even know the names of all the officers yet, and the captain is almost never the same person episode to episode. They're not a "space family" (yet) like we've seen on all previous Star Trek TV series, but I'm willing to give them some time to figure it out--just not much more than the next season.

I'm a little conflicted, on one hand this bodes well for the possibility for a T6 Karfi some day...but may be another piece of exclusivity that the KDF loses though.

I.S.S. Discovery has me thinking it'll be like that Tzenkethi mission where we got to play from the "bad guys" perspective. Mirror DSC got squashed by the Klingons in the show but we never saw what happened, so perhaps we'll get an episode where we play as Terran's but eventually get our ass handed to us and destroyed.
