I myself was kinda thinking they were going to remaster Diablo 1 or 2. I had no idea they were going to make a d3-like mobile game.

Yeah, I have no real opinion one way or the other, since I won't be playing it, but I suspect it'll get an audience, just not with the main Diablo players, should bring in some money, that's what it's really about.

I'd have much preferred for this to either be another expansion for Diablo 3 or a teaser for the rumoured Diablo 4.

This has Activision/Kotick written all over it, I wouldn't have really cared if they just announced it in a small press release but dear god they hyped this thing up so much it made everyone, including me, think it was Diablo 4. The fact they made it a major announcement didn't help, and their response to said criticism isn't helping matters.

After watching the Diablo Immortal Unveiled Panel (I didn't watch it after the opening ceremony), I have to admit: I am feeling really sorry for Wyatt Cheng and the rest of the development team, especially those who were on the stage. They've put hundreds of hours of work into it, just to get 'boohed' live on the stage.

Also after having 2days thinking about it, I will just wait what happens. It is still Mobile, which I really don't like, but I think the game can be great if they don't ruin it with Pay2Win Microtransactions.



I am actually going to pre-register myself tomorrow for Diablo Immortal. I want to see what they do with it, even if I might not play it in the end.

Ex-Blizzard employee Mark Kern, who worked as a producer on Diablo 2, has blamed the publisher for the Diablo: Immortal backlash.

In a lengthy Twitter thread, the developer said: "I hate to say it, but what you are seeing is Blizzard not understanding gamers anymore."

Kern's point is centred around how Blizzard teased and revealed the game, rather than the form of the game itself:

"There is nothing wrong with having a mobile version of Diablo. In fact, I would have wanted one as an option", he explained. "But the way it was hinted at, and presented, and the failure of Blizzard management to predict the backlash caught me my surprise. Blizzard used to be really gamer driven".

Kern asserts that by teasing a Diablo announcement – even if we knew that it wasn't Diablo 4 in advance – it created an expectation for existing PC players that they would see a PC product, leading to "a huge bait-n-switch feeling moment."

He adds that, in his time at the company, Blizzard would have predicted this kind of response in advance: "Blizzard never used to have to ask, because it was made up of hard core gamers from top to bottom [...] I would have had a line of devs outside my door telling me [the Immortal reveal] was a bad move."

I agree. I dont see the problem with mobile games. It can be treated like any hand held gaming device. I don't see the backlash for Nintendo switch or any of the previous handheld devices, which surprise, surprise it exactly like a mobile device

Personally, I would never say that a Switch is like a mobile device. The Switch is a console for gaming and some entertainment, while your phone is more of a personal thing. While it can include games, it's also your contact book, you phone with it, you message with it, you can read & write e-mails with it and much more.

The Switch is not a handheld device, it is portable, but not really ideal for prolonged handheld use, it's not comfortable like that. You can use it as a mini screen, and take the controllers off the side, which is how I prefer to use it, but this makes it portable. While it can be used solely for handheld use, that is not its primary purpose.

The battery for the Switch also does not make it a good console for playing handheld games on, unlike a DS, which is built for it's handheld function.

Diablo on the switch is also not a mobile game, it is the full game, not the grind game that Diablo Immortal is.

I would also point out, that Command and Conquer: Rivals got similar hate when it was announced. It's taking a strong IP, and taking it to mobile to squeeze out money from micro transactions, and pay to win mechanics. Most of the fan base don't want mobile games like this, but companies know it will make them money from people who have never played any of the previous games.

Of course you can do more on your phone or tablet, however there are alternatives in usage of them by person to person just like with computers or consoles. I got a few colleague that dont even touch games and use computer only for business or others that just use it as a social networking device, as well with some relatives that have a xbox for only a blueray (dont know why but ya). Seems gaming console developers are going that direction as well with their devices. They want you to do everything on it just not entertainment. In a nutshell I see mobile has any hand held device and find the backlash for it really silly. I mean for goodness sake they're making mobile phones with hardware for gaming.

Lot of you are misunderstanding my quote, "don't see the backlash for Nintendo switch or any of the previous handheld devices, which surprise, surprise it exactly like a mobile device" Its mobile you can move around take it on the bus, use it on airplane, you can go on top of a mountain, parks, sewers, ocean, and etc etc etc.

But this is exactly why I said you dont see the backlash. People categorize it completely different realm when its not. Sure app stores have games/apps that have microtrans all over them. But there are options where that isnt even a thing. You are now seeing them releasing games from previous generations onto these devices.
