there are a few things that get me about discovery one is the tech seems better , to at least in this ep " Girl Power" not that I am unhappy wi hit but dont be so obvious about it whats next gay kissing, sex every ep I really hate it when TV shows try to please everyone and start adding in things.
I actually liked Pike and from what I do remember from TOS is that Spock when he was with Pike he was more emotional and to be honest even in the movies there were things like his half brother that where not known until he had to between Killing his half brother or giving in to him. and making Kirk a little pissed for doing so

But honestly for me it feels like more of the same from season 1...Burnham is a arrogant egotistical know it all who completely ignores the chain of command and it is always left to slide. Kurtzman has already came out and said Burnham is responsible for the Spock we all know and love (Which seems like huge disrespect to the late great Leonard Nimoy, he made Spock who he was...not Michael Burnham).

She got poor Lt Connolly killed because she had to prove she is the best, but what is one more life when you're responsible for millions of deaths and you suffered no consequences for your actions?

I'm worried Jett is just gonna be the token lesbian, there to let you know there is a lesbian on a show now. (Kinda like Camile Wray was in Stargate Universe.) We just met her and all we know is she is a lesbian and a almost Burnham level genius

if you are wondering what I was talking about with the Spock and Burn relationship. at first I was wondering why in all of the TOS and TOS movies there was no mention of half sisters or the like but then I remembered that in one of the TOS movies Spock revelled that he actually had a half brother that know one new about until he had to chose between Killing his half brother or giving in to him. and making Kirk a little pissed for doing so.
which would explain why there was no mention of Burni in any of the TOS movies or TV shows.

But there is a huge difference....Sybok was some black sheep half brother off doing his own thing...according to Kurtzman, Burnham is this legendary galaxy saving hero who is responsible for creating the Spock we all know

Keep in mind that Discovery takes place 10 years before TOS, so it is not unreasonable that people change in that amount of time. Even Vulcans.

Also, the "Discovery is another time line" argument is getting dull at this point. Discovery is prime timeline because CBS says it is, and that makes it canon. You are free to keep your own head-canon, but that changes nothing.

I fail to see your point that they're 'ignoring canon', and the claim that they're doing that to 'every single aspect' is too broad and overreaching to hold weight.

If you apply a little logic to the examples you pointed out, I found very reasonable explanations, in my own personal experiences, in science, and in already established Canon.

Having lived in Desert areas, deserts unless they're like the most extreme areas like the Sahara, are not desolate or void of life, and in fact, can have a lot of foliage and fauna, including Forests, also, Vulcan does have Lakes, Seas and Ice Caps. It's also logical and not unreasonable to assume that settlments would be around areas where access to water would be easy, and where theres water, there is life, especially plant life, at least here on earth. Vulcan, while a 'Desert' world, is not a hot, hellish landscape. It's environment does vary just like it does here on earth, although it skews heavily towards the hot dry and arrid. I'm pretty sure that the majority of planet would probably be like the desert areas in Arizona, New Mexico and parts of Nevada.

Plus there's the very real possibility that the home of Sarek could have just hired a good Landscaper, and since Matter Synthesizers do exist in Star Trek, they can easily create water using that technology by combining Hydrogen and Oxygen.

As for the colour of the sky, nearly all the times that we've seen the sky on Vulcan, it's been early morning or late day, which is also logical because those times would have the temperature being the most tolorable, and due to rayleigh scattering during those times when the sun is at its lowest point in the sky, it would give the sky a reddish hue.

Also, a Blue Sky has been seen on Vulcan in the past, as seen in Enterprise, the 2009 JJ Trek Film (It appeared on screen, so regardless of it being an Alt Timeline, it's still canon. Watch the Vulcan Drill sequence again and you'll see), and on Discovery. Other easy explinations for the colour of the sky could be dust storms casting dust into the high atmosphere, the possiblity of volcanic erruptions (My mother told me that after Mt St. Helens errupted, the sky was red for days as far away as the Yukon).

The fans that cry out "It's not canon! It's not Prime Timeline", while it does seem that there's a lot, I think you'll find that they are in fact just a loud vocal minority being amplified by fan sites, entertainment news sites and the like vying for those sweet sweet advertising dollars that the traffic controversial headlines like "Discovery Does This, FANS PISSED" bring in.

A lot of Trek Fans just love Trek because it's Trek.

Do I agree with everything involved with where the franchise is going and how CBS is handling it? No. But at the same time I'd rather have what we have now then have no Trek at all, so I'm willing to let some things slide, especially if its things that don't matter in the greater scheme of things.

At the end of the day, 'what is canon' is defined by CBS and Paramound (when it comes to movies) as 'What's seen on TV and Movies', and in rare instances like the Star Trek Countdown comics that lead to the 2009 JJ Film, 'Whats in print until contradicted by something on screen.'

I quite enjoyed the new season, I like the actor they casted for Pike and I quite like the design of the Discoprise. Its nice to see an easily identifiable Connie with a more modern evolution of the design from the Original Series. However, in the first episode of season 2, I felt that a few parts of it seemed rushed and there was a few odd timeskips(?).

For example, when Pike is assigned to command Discovery, its an odd transition as it skips from Saru being handed back command to Pike in the Disco uniform in the Ready Room talking with Burnham about how he's been assigned as C.O while Enterprise is under repairs. I feel like there was a scene missing in between the two events.

I feel like the showrunners have learned a lot from the early Disco episodes in season 1 and its nice to see that they aren't completely disregarding established Trek lore (perhaps treading on it slightly!).

Tig Notaro was a great fit for that scene. Pike is Starfleet as I think of it. I really enjoyed the teamwork of the front console duo. More familiar sounds. Y'all, the red alert animation is from WoK-era and that is so awesome and out-of-place

I have many more observations but it's too early to decide if they are criticism or hate.

I dislike the argument of "Well it's Star Trek, which is better than no Trek at all!", it doesn't sell the show to me at all, just having the name, and brand is really not enough. It is flawed in it's writing, and direction, it focuses on a single character, who never gets it wrong, I stated my opinions already in my previous post.

Just being Star Trek doesn't give it a free pass from criticism, and it does also seem to be doing things that slap down canon, in favour of trying to forge it's own path, to become the only Star Trek people will ever acknowledge. Just look at what they did to Klingons, and the language, both very well established, books written about the Klingon language, but instead of using that, they decided to reinvent it. That's not some minor detail, that is something quite major, a drastic change, then you have an android in Starfleet, when Data was supposed to be the first android in Starfleet, it's that sort of revisionism that annoys people.

Indeed I wish Star Trek Fans would be more interested to keep the franchise they loved what it is and not pick up every bone thrown at them but be more like what Star Wars Fans are doing to save their franchise.
