Hi. I'm not talking fleet uniforms or anything, but in general, when I see a thread on the net about what canon colors for uniforms are, the appropriate square from the tailor in STO never seems to match or often times is even available.... what am I doing wrong, lol?
For example, look at this post https://twitter.com/stonewallgn/stat...94483593629697
they say K3 would be the discovery captain color... I go to the tailor on spacedock, K2 isn't even really blue to me, it's more like an aqua...doesn't remotely look right.
And this isn't the first time it happens, so someone please solve the great mystery...why do colors not match?

Hey Trekster,
This isn't a simple question to answer as there are multiple facets to the answer. I think the issue lies with how your monitor handles colour output. All monitors do it differently and have different colour ranges, some are HDR while others are not. That will affect how the colour looks to you. Also screen brightness, contrast and colour temperatures can also be a factor.
Try playing around with the colour settings of your monitor and see if it helps in any way. Sadly there isn't much you can do about it. For example, in the uniform guides for the community, the TWOK uniform colours are a deep red in the screenshot but the colour code in game appears as a much brighter red on my monitor.
Edit: I would suggest using our uniform guides for accurate colours on the uniforms, the guys over at FAB put in a lot of hard work to get the colours as close as possible to the on screen versions.

Lighting can also have an impact on how the uniforms appear to the eye too.
This is what happened in TOS, the long canon Command Gold uniforms were actually a shade of green - similar to the wraparound tunic Kirk sometimes wore, though it was made from a different material so it showed on screen the same as it did to the eye - but they appeared gold under the studio lights and the film stock used for outside shots.

I had no idea we even had a guide. Thanks for letting me know!
It's also very clear my monitor has some very screwed up color values, I hadn't thought about that, but even after turning off lighting 2.0, the color our guild says should be the blue for the Discovery uniform...on my monitor, it's purple...
so I guess the problem is definitely my monitor

Somewhere in the menu for you monitor there should be a 'Factory Reset" option. I would start there. If you're running an old CRT, there may even be a degaussing option.
Then read THIS.
And finally, in the in-game options, you can set the brightness and contrast.
