Good evening all,

I'm a new player, almost 65. My first character is a scientist. Now I have been searching informations on what to do as soon I'm 65.

As far I understand, I have reputations to work, crafting, R&D, Admiralty, selecting a ship & doing the proper build and of course fitting it with proper gears.

My problem is the selection of Ship, the build, & captain skills. I have seen plenty of builds and to be honest I'm quite confused even lost.

Arbiter is apparently the ship to go (good for new player). Is it worth for a scientist captain? What build would you recommend?

If there is any counsel to add, it would be to read stuff first. Spending the time away from the game, will make game time "better" because effort will be made toward efficiency (or saving time).

One of the benefits of STO is that you can put any captain in any ship, if you have played other MMO's you might be familar with the diffent classes there if so let us know what you played there that would be important for to know so we can help you.

Exactly Scarlett, I do want to go on the right track and at the moment I'm lacking of knowlegde.

Well Bridger in previous MMO I have played all roles, Tank, healer Dps, Science is more Dps/ support . Later on I will do a tactical toon for full dps build.

Do you thing by starting with the Arbiter and with the proposed build from Generator is good choice?

If you have not already, read the comments under the build. Some notes are worth the read as they sort of explain what's happening above.

Having a build is one thing, knowing how it works is another, more important, lesson.

And really, the Arbiter is really about the Starship Trait, not the ship (yes, it's THAT good to have on any other ship). I mean, if you like using the Arbiter, then that is just a bonus to you

Actually Scarlett, it is about the ship, at least partially. Part of Sizer's point there (or at least the key point I took away from that post), is that the nice thing about that bundle is that it's a great Trait paired up with a ship that's no slouch, either. If you don't know what ship to use at any given moment, "Arbiter/Kurak/Morrigu" is a perfectly cromulent answer.

Arbiter's trait is good for energy weapon builds. If you end up building a sci torp boat however, then the arbiter trait is less useful, I don't use it on my most outfitted EPG (Exotic Particle Generator) build sci either. Sci can be amazing fun, but can be frustrating getting it right at times. However if something goes wrong, one can always change around, that's an advantage.

One of the best sci ships is the eternal class ship, from the the 31st century cstore pack. Its looks however are subject to debate, some like it, some don't. It's not very fed-style though. If you prefer fed-style looks, then the T6 Pathfinder (the T6 Voyager basically ), T6 Advanced Research Vessel (T6 Nebula) or T6 Multi Mission Science vessels (T6 Vesta) are quite neat. Each have their own style, console sets, and advantages/disadvantages to the others.

If you like pets, the multi mission ships have one hangar each. Alternatively the T6 Jem'Hadar Vanguard Carrier is sci-heavy (but not an outright sci ship), and has two hangars, though again then it's not fed-style. Not too sure about other Carriers, how sci heavy they are)

Generally that wiki is also a good go-to source for looking up ships, traits, sets, etc. well worth bookmarking it.

One thing that you have to know about STO is that everything a Engineer or Science can do a Tactical can do too and even better.

The build linked is a good start, I would build it differnetly but getting the Arbiter and the Trait is a good first step into all directions.

Huh. I never looked at those because, well, they're cruisers. I fly tactical boats. But that trait looks promising. I don't know if it's Z-3k promising... EPW gives +Dmg and -Cooldown? Maybe.

But like I said, shop around. Play with the different classes at lower levels (T3 or T4) before you go hip-deep in a T6. I made the mistake of NOT buying the X-faction Pilot Pack and bought the FEDs 1 at a time, then the others in 3-ship packs. I paid WAY more than I should have.

Decide where you want to go, and your ships will come to you.

And here's Bridger's build for the Arbiter. It's a Fleet T6, and it's a tank, but it's a start.

I will go for the initial proposed Arbiter build. Step by step I will upgrade the ship accordinly.

The faction battlecruisers are excellent ships, either T6 or Fleet T6 versions. My Alts all run them regularly, cannon build on the Morrigu is a surprisingly fun to play and partially canon. The three piece console set from Morrigu, Valdore and Mogai also works quite well on it.
I would favour the faction Battlecruisers over faction Flagships.

Bit off topic but before the introduction of battlecruisers for Fed players, one of my 'go to' ships was the veteran rewarded destroyer, Chimera. Setup as a single torp beamboat, playing as a more manoeuvrable cruiser. Essentially what the Avenger was released as, and by extension, the Arbiter.
