So, quick preface/intro. I've been playing since Beta, lifetime sub, but I play a little, then take a while off, rinse and repeat over the past many years. It's only recently where I've really started playing a LOT, getting my reputations up, getting my R&D up, etc... so while I'm an older player, I'm fairly "new" to optimizing builds, optimizing my BOFFs, and so on.

I'm working a build for my Tactical Command Battlecruiser, which is a pure Beam boat just based on the speed and turn rate. It's fairly easy to keep even large ships full broadside for all weapons to be nailing at all times.

I took the time to put the build together, here: https://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/#starship
(Note, one item I have wasn't in the system.... https://sto.gamepedia.com/Console_-_...nt_Frequencies)

And here are the Bridge Officer abilities I'm using: https://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/#bridge-officers

Obviously I'm geared for Phasers right now.... but after reading a few posts here on the forums, I'm considering moving to AntiProton. Thoughts?

    Hey Jhembryn,

I'd say stick with Phasers, there are a lot of consoles out there that boost phaser damage, such as the Quantum Phase Set, fleet spire consoles and a plethora of other ones (I can't quite remember all of them right now haha).

Antiproton is also a good choice for weapons and there are quite a few consoles that buff it, but generally speaking I prefer phaser damage.

Well, I do like to hear that. I'm lining myself up to buy the Fleet consoles to boost my phasers, just have to save up some more Dil, since I spent all I had refined this weekend to get Phoenix Upgrades, which I'll save for the next upgrade weekend.

Thats a good idea, you wanna stack up on the fleet consoles that buff Crit Chance and have the [Phaser] modifier, Vulnerability Locators.

The perception that Antiprotons are still the best weapon type is outdated by several years now, at the moment the top three are Phaser, Disruptor and Polaron.

Which is why I fly the dumbest ship type and use Antiproton weaponry on EVERYTHING and everybody.

Right now Phasers are the meta. Get you a set of [something]-linked phasers and watch the deeps climb. Disruptors are close behind because you can get [something]-linked disruptors as well. Run them up to Mk XV and mow through everything in your path.

Now here's the secret: Play what makes you happy. I play Herald Antiproton when I can. I like the color of the beams and the noise the guns make. But that's me. Some people use hero, canon, weapons and visuals only, because they're RPGing. People use Rainbow Beams so they can hit a little bit of everything or they like the way the pretty colors dance across the screen. And, yes, some people chase Deeps.

Sure, the meta says use the linked phasers or disruptors. But that's this month. What happens when the next meta weapons roll onto the scene? If you try to keep up with the meta, you'll end up Chasing The Dragon. If you find a type that suits the way you want to play, the meta will never be an issue. But if you get off on deeping, then man, you get some of those [whatever]-linked beams and you show them bastards what's WHAT!

    FYI:
    • Emitter-Linked +5 Starship Shield Restoration & Shield Capacity
    • Integrity-Linked: +5 Hull Capacity & Damage Control (Hull Regen)
    • Sensor-Linked: +5 Defensive Maneuvering & Weapon Amplification (+CrtH)
    • Targeting-Linked: +5 ACC & Tactical Readiness (Decreases TAC BOff cooldowns)
    • Focusing-Linked: +5 Shield Hardness & Scientific Readiness (Decreases SCI BOff cooldowns)
    • Resilience-Linked: +5 Ablative Hull Plating (+KineticRes, +PhysicalRes) & Engineering Readiness (Decreases ENG cooldowns)

Under the current state of the game options, any energy type is viable.

Since you're running a fed type ship, I'd say phasers work great.

The next alternatives are: Disruptor, Polaron.

Antiproton, Tetryon and Plasma require more effort, but yield solid results.

Dps wise: Phaser, disruptor, Polaron, Antiproton, Plasma and Tetryon.

Price wise: disruptor, polaron, antiproton are cheapest alternatives.

Or if you wanna peacock yourself, go with [beam] vulnerability locators and mix up energy types. Terran taskforce, advanced temporal, experimental romulan, advanced piezo polaron, trilithium omni etc.

    Thanks folks!

I'm definitely a "have fun first" kind of person. I have a full time job, a daughter, and I'm an author in my spare time... so gaming time HAS to be fun. I don't have loads of extra time to spend min/maxing. I've always gone phasers with Federation characters because, well, it just makes sense! Plus I'm an old-school RPer, and sometimes it just feels "wrong" to me if I were to, for example, use Plasma on a Federation human character.

So, I appreciate all the responses. Smile Definitely makes me feel like I'm not "Screwing up" which I think is what I was after.

I still use Antiproton weaponry on my Scimitar with [CrtD]x3 [Pen] modifiers (Dual beam banks) and still pump out a respectable 150k dps.
