    COMMUNITY DEBATE
USE OF FACIAL RECOGNITION BY THE POLICE

    Name: facialrecog.png
Views: 285

Facial recognition technology continues to develop, in that it can be used to control various things, like the lock on your smartphone, but the technology has also been deployed in other ways. There are police forces around the world who are interested in the technology, some have already deployed it, like in China, and there are others, like the UK, who are trialing the technology.

The argument put forward is that it helps to catch criminals, and track people of interest to the police. Against this argument are issues of privacy, and someones face being on a database when they haven't commited a crime.

So where do you stand on the use of facial recognition by the police? Do you support it, or are you against it, and why?

I personally believe that if you've got nothing to hide then you've got nothing to worry about. If someone wants to keep my face on their database then I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Speaking from my professional experience as a an officer for a government department that uses facial recognition technology already, I think it's a marvellous piece of kit.

Old Thread but I heard something disturbing from the Chinese side of this. Social Credit which determines how loyal you are to the communist party or China. This score is base on EVERYTHING. Who you hangout with, what you buy at the store, criticism you may have, and etc. Checkout this website and see for yourself if you interested in learning about it. One of the quotes from this article is "If successful, it will be the world’s first digital dictatorship.", which is kind of scary if you think about it.

It really doesn't matter what you're talking about, it can be used for good or bad. Those who want to use technology, etc. for nefarious reasons will find a way to do so. This should not stop those who want to use it for good from being able to do so.
