Give the gift of a Starship

So it appears, for a limited period at least, we can gift a ship to another player. It's unclear if the free T6 token earned via the FTFO events is usable for this.

It doesn't appear so at first read, as they've listed a 3000 Zen price for the gift coupon.

It's an interesting concept, nonetheless- but my biggest question why they'd make it a limited time function to begin with. What's the point of that?

My suspicion would be that they're testing the waters to see how this works out. Possibly a potential alternate stream of revenue if loot boxes get stamped out by the law in the future.

It's definitely an interesting idea for sure. It will be quite useful for things like fleet prizes i'm thinking, or anyone who is wanting to help a friend out to get into the game etc. I'm honestly surprised it's taken them this long to add this to the game.

I suspect the limited time part is to keep it rare, a bit like the Phoenix boxes so that people are more inclined to buy the tokens when they have limited chances. The token itself might well be unlimited, but can only be bought at specific times of the year. That would be pretty good balance I reckon.

I want to get my hands on a Mercury-class Pilot Escort (if I can't get my hands on an S31 Intel Sci-Destroyer) to start playing a Tac-Officer again, but I doubt I'll reach the 3k token for the free t6 before it ends because no Featured TFOs atm, and well given the exchange rate, that is like 45-60AUD for a starship (oh and I don't have near enough dil to convert)

It just doesn't make much sense why Cryptic would limit their own potential to earn income via Zen sales.

If the T6 coupon was available on the Zen Store for a discounted price- I could see why time limitation would be a good idea. They limit times on discounted sales all the time, after all. Even when you consider the Dil->Zen conversion angle- if it were a discounted item, time limitation would make sense. But if you're spending 100% to get an item just to be able to "gift" it to another account, what sense does it really make? Someone's gotta spend money somewhere along the line for the Zen to begin with.

Don't get me wrong- I'm glad they're testing the waters with this one, It's just perplexing why they'd do it this way when the ability to gift to another should have already existed years ago... perhaps I'm just not seeing a side to this.

Go with the 3-Pack if you're going to get a Pilot. The Ajax's Subspace Eddy Generator is the nicer console, the Icarus has better seating, and as long as you're there, get the Mercury.

As for the whole, gift a fwiend a T6 concept? Sure, why not? I would like to see the program expand. Buy a fwiend any level Zen ship. Fwiend wants a T4 Defiant? Spend 1,500 Z and get them a T4 token. Makes sense to me.

I guess that they are testing the system for abuse. They want to see if players find a way to exploit the program. If there is, the damage is minimized because it's a limited event.

Whoopsie! Missed that part. It's just that it's 3 for the price of 2.
I went the long way 'round, that's why I mentioned it. I got them individually, and I started with the wrong one. I went with the Mercury first. Learn from my mistakes! 😭

Glad someone else said the 'accepting donations' before I did!

Its an interesting system and one that Wargaming have kind'a sort'a had for their titles for a while though most the people I would have played the game with have moved on.
