Greetings All! Welcome to the Eighth Edition of the Academy News! I am Michael Deputy Commandant of Starfleet Academy. This newsletter is an initiative from the Academy that is intended to keep you abreast of the latest news from across the United Federation of Planets.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

• HOLODECK STAFF ADDITIONS:
  A new Event Officer has materialized with Lars2510:
  As you'll see below Lars already has some events out, one for STA 3 and another for SW Battlefront 2. Lars has been with the UFP since 2016 and has previous CL4 experience in other positions. Good luck with your new duties Lars, you already have me thinking of downloading some games I've never played but wanted to!
  
  
• VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
  The UFP would not be the place it is today without our volunteers who selflessly sacrifice their time to help out. Check out the currently open volunteer positions, and how to apply for one, here.

The United Federation of Planets has a good number of events coming up! You can sign up for any of these events here:

• STAR WARS THE OLD REPUBLIC:
  Friday, 18th October at 2200 GMT/UFP; Event Officer Michael Do you feel a little bewildered by all the various offerings at the fleet holdings in STO? Are you new to the game or have you returned from a lengthy absence? Join us on Friday the 18th of October at 22:00 UFP (UK) time for a tour of the Sith Flagship, an opportunity to see what's on offer at the UFPs fleet holdings. Once the tour is done feel free to join us for some Herorics or Flashpoints.
  
  
• STAR WARS THE OLD REPUBLIC:
  Saturday, 19th October at 0100 GMT/UFP; Event Officer Michael Greetings fellow Champions!
  
  Tonight we perform one or more dangerous missions to aid the Galaxy in it's glorious fight!
  
  How many missions is determined by the galaxy's most wealthy, as they send urgent requests for help from all corners of the galaxy.
  
  We may be up against members of the Hutt Cartels, smugglers, pirates, or a large faction such as the Republic or Empire!
  
  It is hoped that all attending will make it back in one piece, but as ever - last messages to loved ones will be passed across should you fall in battle.
  
  
• DESTINY 2:
  Saturday, 19th October at 1800 GMT/UFP; Event Officer Arlu3n It's that time of the week, where we Guardians are needed more than ever, so let us rise above it all and crush those baddies beneath our boots!
  
  Depending on what content we want to do, we can either split into separate teams if we have the numbers or run about and just wreck face doing whatever needs doing.
  
  Destiny 2 is Free to Play with a mountain of content to enjoy at no charge.

• STAR TREK ARMADA 3:
  Saturday, 19th October at 1900 GMT/UFP; Event Officer Lars2510 This event will be a multi-hour session of Sins Of A Solar Empire Rebellion, using the brilliant Star Trek Armada 3 modification by Stellar Parallax Studios. Star Trek Armada 3 is a total conversion mod, replacing all ships, research options, planet types, currencies etc. to convert the base game into what is arguably the best Star Trek strategy game experience ever created. You can play as the Federation, Klingon Empire, Romulan Empire, Cardassian Union, Dominion and the Borg.
  
  
• STAR TREK ONLINE:
  Saturday, 19th October at 2000 GMT/UFP; Special Forces Commander Solace Greetings members! Welcome to Special Forces Saturday! Don't worry everybody is welcome to attend! This upcoming event, we'll be grinding out marks, accolades, doing Elite content or just grouping up for some jolly cooperation! (Praise the sun!)
  
  We'll be meeting on DS9 next the shipyard/exchange. Level 50+ character will be required! See you all there!
  
  
  
• STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2:
  Sunday, 20th October at 1900 GMT/UFP; Event Officer Lars2510 This is the 2017 release of Battlefront 2, not the earlier 2005 version.
  
  We will be playing mostly co-op games, but if sufficient interest is there, we can progress onto multiplayer provided everyone is happy to do so. Just have fun pew-pewing in Star Wars. Perfect weekend guaranteed*

• AGE OF EMPIRES 2: HD:
  Tuesday, 22nd October at 1900 GMT/UFP; Quartermaster Seapanda We will be playing the remake of the above named game, Age of Empires II: HD Edition. There are several mods that are currently being used in the game, and new members who join the event will be able to either subscribe to the mods (graphical mods) or we will revert back to the default game.
  
  A customer defense map is currently being used, where all players face off against increasingly more difficult AI. For the time being, the teams will be locked, to prevent people like me turning on you lot Smile Later on, as this event grows, we will ask for feedback and look into different maps and game modes.
  
  
• ELITE DANGEROUS:
  Wednesday, 23rd October at 1930 GMT/UFP; Executive Officer Bedders This is a weekly get-together for anyone who currently plays, or wishes to start playing, Elite: Dangerous.
  
  We may form wings if we're close enough to each other but primarily this is just an organised time to all play the same game and share knowledge & ask questions of each other, or to showcase our favourite ships to satisfy our vanity!

  Thursday, 23th October at 2000 GMT/UFP; Executive Officer Bedders Greetings fellow Champions!

It is highly recommended that you keep one eye on the events page whenever you visit the site because random events are being added all the time!
