    It's your right, and yes, your vote does in fact matter. It's estimated that 2/3rds of registered voters don't vote. That means that 1/3rd of the population is deciding what kind of government governs the whole nation.

    You do have the time to vote. By law, your employer must give you time off to vote if your work schedule would otherwise keep you from getting to a voting place (IE working a shift that starts before polls open and ends after polls close).
