    Greetings!

Just before I get into the results from the December Holodeck survey, I'd like to wish a thank you to all of the staff of Holodeck for their hard work. It's always great to see so many varied events and of such a high quality. All of our officers do a terrific job and it's always worth mentioning!

Also a monumental thanks to you, the UFPlanets members. Without you to attend and enjoy events, our efforts would be pointless. Thank you for your continued support.

Enough from me; on to the survey results:

    DIVISION REVIEW:
    NOT REQUIRED

Feels too stretched as far as members to have guilds in so many games. Just opinion. But once people log on and do things together is a lot better. Oh I wish people did more together events or not.
Bedders: We do support a large number of games and have guilds in a lot of them. This is because interest in games often changes; when World of Warcraft Classic came out, there was a wave of interest in both it and Retail. Personally it gets boring only playing the same game night after night so we try to offer a variety.

Noram: Agreed, but the corollary to that is people have to participate. It never feels good to plan an event only to be the only one to show up.

Seapanda: To be completely honest, when we host some MMO-type games, and there is a UFP guild/clan established already, it's for a good reason. Joining it allows UFP members to stay in touch after the event stops (if they are not active on TeamSpeak) and it allows us in some cases (Such as our Warframe clan) to supply the members of the UFP with as much resources and weaponry as they could possibly want (even end game weapons). They are by no means mandatory to join to, it just makes life a little bit easier.

No problems at all. Buy them a Beer!
Bedders: Thanks for your kind words! I prefer amaretto and coke on the rocks, but the thought's appreciated ^,^
Noram: Or just a whisky, that always works
Seapanda: I don't drink, but thanks anyways Smile
Heyallo: I'll take a Dr. Pepper!

Loving the variety of events from Holodeck Big Grin
Bedders: Thank you! We do try to ensure there's some variety in what we're doing, but that's difficult as it's largely the same few people attending events.
Seapanda: It'll keep getting better and better during 2020!
Heyallo: Come play with us more!

    Best division in the world.
Bedders: Only in the world? Which is the best in the whole universe then?
    Seapanda: We try.
Heyallo: We do what we can, glad you like us!

I look forward to seeing how these institutions are run!
Bedders: For Holodeck that's quite simple: We host games, and maintain UFP guilds within them. There's more information on our division page.
Seapanda: We also offer support for anyone willing to try and host their own events.

    Form an Overwatch league team
Seapanda: If you play it yourself (none of us do), make a thread in holodeck and find people who also play Overwatch, and you have yourself a team.

Sorry, I ain't got a dawg in this fight.
Bedders: I hope that you can attend some events and see what we're about!
Seapanda: It's never too late to start!
Heyallo: What about a cat? bird? shark with laser beam on its frickin' head? =P

Yes. Awesome Bedders and team doing awesome things as awesome always. Awesome.
Bedders: Thanks! It's very much a team effort to ensure there's always something going on for people to enjoy.
Noram: Indeed, Bedders and the whole team do great work
    Seapanda Thank you!
    Heyallo: Yay, thank you =)

    Everything Is AWESOME!!!
Bedders: 480b6216b16fb1a21acc318c3d805f53 get well quotes fun quotes
Heyallo: EVERYTHING IS COOL WHEN YOU'RE PART OF A TEAM!!!

    They always do well, consistently
Bedders: Thanks! It's very much a team effort to ensure there's always something going on for people to enjoy.
    Seapanda Thank you!

Again, not certain how these divisions/areas actually differ from one another...
Bedders: For Holodeck that's quite simple: We host games, and maintain UFP guilds within them. There's more information on our division page.

Can't see many issues from this division, events are run and my invites were always done fast. I do not see the CO around on the forum or host events, maybe he should step down? Bedders has always replied to my messages and helped with SWTOR.
Bedders: Thank you for your kind words! Regarding the CO, Noram, a lot of what he does is behind the scenes and not as visible as hosting events.
    Heyallo: What's a "Noram" ? =P

I don't really see much going on with holodeck recently and the division appears to be mostly dead. I think that is down more to the gaming habits of members rather than the staff as there appears to be an abundance of events up for the division, but I don't know how popular the events are as there haven't been any after action reports in while. (I'm not some creep, I just like to read what's going on :p)
Bedders: Posting 'good' after action reports requires some creativity. It's boring to just keep saying 'This event happened; we won; the end' every week, but writing them can be difficult and if it's not done straight after I often forget! In terms of attendance, the same regular people attend events on TS but it'd be nice to see different people joining in.
Seapanda: The thing is, a lot of the Holodeck diversity and activity comes from the gaming community out there in the world. For example, I had plans on running Warcraft 3 Reforged events this month, and I already have 4 styles of after action reports ready (one for each faction), but in the end Blizzard delayed the release by a month. Then you have Stellaris, that the Dev's broke with their launcher update, so we can't even begin to look into getting back into that game and it's AAR's. Rest assured, once things become available (and playable) we'll jump right back to it.
Heyallo: I usually try to host events as often as I can, but when Summer rolls around, I don't have AC in my bedroom so it limits my PC usage sadly. This year there was also the bushfires in my state that I was about 100km from =(

Tough job in an extremely fickle environment (i.e. gamers). Some older titles are going strong, yet not seeing any progressive discussions or looking for a title that may leverage a community this strong and passionate about gaming. And when the subject is broached, it appears it gets stomped as it disrupts the status quo. Every month I see the same comments regarding this, "speak-up, step-up, blah". Yes, that is true, but also the tone and negativity between the lines as that is said is also true. In that respect, who wants to speak-up or step-up? Hobby-time is limited as it is, so it is understandable why no one wants to fight or put up with that. Please be more accepting and open minded of ideas is all. FYI, the event officers are doing a wonderful job so please give them praise and some cookies. They deserve it.
Bedders: It seems like you've got a couple of points here: That we don't support a title played by the whole community, and that we talk down at people when they suggest a new game.
It's true that no one title from Holodeck unites everyone in the community. I don't feel we'd be doing our job if it did; we're a Star Trek community, STO and Star Trek is what unites us. Holodeck exists to offer a diverse gaming environment and cater to many different tastes and we have events in MMOs, shooters and strategy games all regularly being hosted. There is no single (or even several) title(s) that a lot of our members play apart from STO that we can rally around.
I'm very sorry that you believe we talk down and stomp on people who try to make suggestions. That is certainly not our intention and as shown by the numerous threads (the latest of which is here), we do take onboard what people suggest and have tried hosting events in suggested games. Unfortunately attendance in them is typically very poor so they don't catch on. The worst feeling as an event officer is when you put in the time to create an event, get it scheduled in for a weekly timeslot, then have literally nobody turn up to it for week after week. It sucks, it's awful, and it really makes you wonder why you volunteer to help at times.
You do make a good point though that we keep telling people to step up, and that it can come across as negative. From my personal viewpoint, that's because we're fed up with people who say they dislike something but don't take the chances they are offered to change it. I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again - if you're available to attend an event, you're also available to host it. It takes a couple of minutes of your time to post an event on our Events Page (I'm happy to help as well if you're unsure or get stuck).

Noram: As you say, hobby-time is limited, and this is one of our hobbies as well. Just like you, we want to play games we enjoy. My stance has always been that the people requesting, demanding, or insisting that we support certain games are often the experts that are already best suited to help their fellow members enjoy the games they already love. For example, the person requesting the Overwatch league. That isn't a game I play or something I know anything about, but if another member wanted to help us with that, they'd have the full support of Holodeck behind them.

Seapanda: I'm sorry, but I'm still waiting for someone outside of Holodeck to come up with a game idea that can be played and actually hosts it. Quite frankly, it's very easy to say in these surveys that we're not doing a good enough job, or that the games that we have listed on a daily/weekly basis are not what you're looking for. But who says it has to stay like this? I personally host events based off of games that I own, that can be played in multiplayer/coop and that are not gated (i.e. progression being blocked by time or other various factors). I do hope you take my word when I tell you, it is incredibly easy to host an event. All you need, is a bit of free time and you're set. If you ever have any doubt, please just send a PM to Bedders, Noram or myself, and we'll be more than happy to help you out and set up the event, and even join it if we have the game. At the end of the day, we are all a part of a very big community and we all have our part to play. We specifically opened the Event Hosting up for every CL3 member, so that they can host their own games, independently of us, so they can play with others that they want. Be the change you want to see.

Heyallo: Step up, join the team, host the things you want to see =)
