New Legendary Galaxy class build query

Hello all. I wanted some advise about the new Galaxy class that's coming with the Legends bundle, as I'm struggling atm to see how it's going to benefit better than my current fleet T6 Galaxy.

I've spent the last week or so fine tuning my current ship build for my engineer main, trying to go for a DPS tank build but trying to stay close to canon as possible. Other than the same console slots and similar BOFF layout (command engineering/command and Lt science/command), the only new benifit is the hull cap is slightly more than the previous T6.

I've adapted Bridger's Tactical Galaxy build to my engineer as best I can and it seems to perform well in both of ISA and HSA and I've also kept the space traits as best I can. Being an engineer I'm missing out on "a good day to die" trait, but apart from that everything else is more or less the same.

The build is currently set up as a beam FAW aggro tank, but I have been experimenting with beam overload, using both the Xindi trait "superweapon ingenuity" and the NX trait "preferential targeting" and this is working out rather well.

My question I guess is, what benefits would I gain from having a commander command seating? Is Rally Point Marker III worth upgrading from II? Also, with some of the new traits inbound from the legends set (like the new trait from the new Defiant), is it worth on paper upgrading/replacing current traits?

I know we don't even have the new ships yet, so it's harder to work out what the benefits are and it's all purely guess work at the moment, but any help anyone has on fine tuning this more for my Engineering main would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if its sound advice but I really believe Pilot is an undervalued specialisation, especially in a Galaxy.

I cannot express the sheer delight of using "Rock & Roll, causing a Galaxy to do a Barrel Roll with FAW firing all over the place.

Haha, to be honest, I have dabbled with using pilot spec before and I always do love seeing her jolt side to side when she's under fire which is rather awesome (especially against Hurq swarmers). It also slightly improved the turn rate I believe too, so good advice for sure.

I think the Galaxy is a bad platform as a Tank, she is not offensive enough and as a Engineer your missing out on buffs to boost your DPS as an Engineer and I would not invest too much into her, if you want to tank on an Engineer you probably need a ship like the Donnie.

Yeah true, and I do have the Donnie on my Disco tactical all, and she works amazingly well for sure, but...I love the Galaxy class way to much and I've waited a fair amount of time for her to get the visual update she's been needing since launch, and now we have one.

What role would you suggest for her then? I'm happy to adapt my playstyle in order to keep her as my main ship for sure?

I think she is an outdated design, I would probably do a BO build, or you could go with a Torp Build on her all in all she will be able to break the 200K but all I can say right now is based on the stuff I have access now and could be to totally different with the new Traits so take everything I say with a grain of salt until I can actually test the new stuff.

OK noted and I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of the new traits as on paper, they sound pretty awesome. I'll have a play around with what I have and see how she performs. Cheers Bridger!

A bit of theory-crafting for you: Based on the stats that have been shown on the blog Cryptic really missed the mark with the Galaxy here, the only benefit that she has over the fleet t6 galaxy is that she has a full command spec and access to inspiration abilities. Aside from that you’d be better off looking at the donnie or the science odyssey

Hm I might got hit by inspiration regarding to the Galaxy.

Edit: Inspiration hit but the Galaxy can't do it but the Legendary Command Dreadnought Cruiser could.

Very true they missed the mark, but I'm not going to give up on her. I'm going to try and make the best I can with what's available. As Bridger mentioned, as long as I can hit the 200K mark with a decent BO build. I'll be happy.

Yeah its a nice setup, 3 Colony protomatter consoles + LCFCs (custom fire controls) 2pc Mycelial for hull regen, with reiterative struc. capacitor and other important tanking consoles maybe flagship computer for haste buff.

What's with the inspiration mechanic anyhow? I know you have the three clickys once you've maxed the meter out, but what are the benefits? I'm aware of the Temporal and the MW innovation ones, but not so much the command ones.

Wouldn’t A2B be preferable over PO for CDR? Also are you using TBR to grab enemies or push them away?

What you use depends on the Class and the role you want to use, for and Engineer it would open up Doff Slots to create more agro.
