Following on from his directing, Frakes reprises his role as Riker in this episode, alongside Sirtis as Troi.

Nepenthe is episode 7 of 10. (the Borg puns can start now...)

Not seen it yet obviously but the title "Nepenthe" is the name of a mythical drug or medicine that was said to have to power to grant forgetfulness, in particular to help people forget feelings of sorrow or hurt.

Might be interesting to bear that in mind when watching.

hmm ok ep wasn't to bad accept for the planet that riker ( who didnt bother me as much as I expected he would have) lives on Is the same planet that Kirk and Mcoy were sent to a Klingon prison and it was an Ice plant that the y used for mining so unless Carol Marcus did a genesis experiment there t o create a fertile world which I really doubt because the planet did have life on it before some one screwed up. and the Vulcan head of Security did something they are not really supposed to do Force the meld she didnt even ask for permission which again goes totally against the Vulcan way that was borderline it seems like a bit of a Hodgepodge writing to try and get a little bit of everything into the story, Genesis , the Mind meld the part of the Picard Crew back together the daughter who says she is ( dont remmeber the name ) buit a none violent person because she wouldn't hurt anyone yet she brings back a dead animal she killed for food.
oh and one thiong I noticed real quick is how the scare disappears on forehead oops

It's not the same planet, just similar names. The Klingon prison was called Rura Penthe.

Another episode that gets you right in the nostalgic feels. Hugh though FFS I was like no wtf you doing he just got back why.

I am sure there will be more deaths soon, in the first 5 Episodes alone 30 people died.

Overall I liked it, but I'm not of fan of how harshly poor ol' Hugh gets treated and killed off. I was hoping for some crazy revolt, which from the preview of next week looks like we still may get, but without Hugh . But at least it looks like more with Seven is coming too .

Indeedo, it was phenomenal how well Riker and Troi performed so closely to their TNG days.

I'm not entirely sure why I liked this episode so much - since it seemed at the same time very slow (not much plot development), while also having some brief high action segments that could be deemed gratuitous and unnecessary (as in: could have left them out with no impact on the plot at all). It probably was the old nostalgic TNG feeling of the whole episode, and how well 'older' Riker and Troy were portrayed - they seemed absolutely right. I could live with a lot more of these kind of episodes...
