    so here i am reading UFP chat and i come accross a couple people talking torp builds so i figured why not look into it so here i am sitting here asking myself what others think

    torp build ships KDF or FED? multy faction?? whatr do you suggest?

    what would you put on it?/

    if your using short forum please enlighten me and use long form as well or instead so i can learn the jargin please and thank you

    For torpedo boats I'd recommend a fed toon as most of the traits required are premium ships that you can get really cheap on feds, Ceaseless momentum for example.

    The best ship for torpedo bombing is hands down the Tzenkethki Tzen-Tar Dreadnought. Its got Command and Miracle Worker seating which gives it insane power, plus torps are just busted haha.

    There are alternatives however such the Fleet Engle and T6 Veteran ships or the T6 Silik Suliban cruiser. One key thing to remember is that with a torpedo bomber shields are the enemy the more shield penetration you can get with a bomber the better for you.

    As Silek posted above I've put a build using the fleet engle and achieved over 400K dps with it, that should give you an idea of what you need.

    Torps are hard to use well for a number of reasons:

    1) Shields have innate resistance of 75% to kinetic damage.
    2) they take longer than any other weapon to hit the target, it can be dead before you hit it.
    3) Torps have global lockouts and cooldowns meaning that things like High Yield etc only affect a single weapon unlike BWAF that buffs all your energy weapons. Also, only one can fire at a time so you are always shooting only one gun at a time unlike an energy build.

    BUT!!!!

    They can be very effective and do a shed load of damage to targets if you get the build right.
    There a few ways to make them effective as builds:

    1) massed fire volumes - spit out so many torps that you are doing as much damage as others using energy weapons and have near constant firing. This relies heavily on cool-down management.

    2) shield bypassing - use what some call "utility" torps that have effects that totally ignore shields,meaning they damage direct to hull. Things like the Gravimetric torps, plasma torps etc.

    3) shield "slamming" - buff your torps so much that when they impact even full shields it won't stop them; the damage they deliver to a target will simply overwhelm the resistances and bleed through to the hull.

    Key thing to bare in mind for a torp build is it won't need weapon power; so you can drop that level to minimum and it gives you more power for the remaining 3 subsystems. All that is needed is weapon power to be "online" to allow firing.
    This is one reason why science vessels work so well as torp boats; they don't need the weapon power so that means they can easily max out Aux power for all those science abilities.

    Good ships for a torp build will need at least Lt Cmdr Tactical seating to get Torp Spread 3 or High Yield 3. The rest is up to you really but access to Gravity Well 1-3 is a massive bonus (group up targets and flatten them with splash damage), and access to Concentrate Firepower from Command spec is useful too (grants free HY torps on marked targets).

    Good sets & items to aim for:

    1) Adapted MACO 2pc set grants kinetic dmg buff for torps.
    2) Dyson munitions 2 and 3pc sets massively buff torpedoes and photons specifically.
    3) Lukari weapons 2pc set buffs torpedos.
    4) Ordnance Accelerator from Gamma rep buffs torps.
    5) Glorious Charge console from the exchange buffs torps.
    6) Swarmer Matrix from the exchange buffs torp training which gives more damage.
    7) Deconstructive Resonance Emmitter from the exchange buffs kinetic damage.

    Good Torps to make use of:

    1) Gravimetric photon - Dyson rep, causes mini grav wells that bypass shields.
    2) Terran photo - Terran rep - ramps up damage as the target health drops.
    3) Quantum Phase torp - explosion does heavy shield stripping damage.
    4) Enhanced Biomolecular photon - Undine rep, HY on this bad boy does INSANE damage; as in triple figure damage.
    5) Lukari photo - explosion causes a variety of electrical damage types and debuffs within a certain area.
    6) Dark Matter quantum - Disco rep - high power and can vapourize the enemy ship!
    7) Particle Emission Plasma - sets the target on fire with plasma, leaves a plasma cloud behind, slows the enemy to a crawl - epic when shot into a grav well.

    A few good torp boat ship options:

    1) Manticore - the Federation veteran ship. Not everyone can access it though.
    2) Hestia Advanced Escort - the T6 Prometheus
    3) S31 Intel Science Destroyer - the stealth ship
    4) T6 Tactical Command Battlecruiser - Presidio Class.
    5) Faeht Intel Warbird - the Romulan intel ship, comes with enhanced battlecloak to shoot torps when cloaked.
    6) T'varo T6 escort - as above with the Faeht, plus has the massive red ball of doom plasma torp.
    7) T6 Earhart Strike Wing Escort - access to command and has pets for added fun.
    8 ) Gagarin MW Battlecruiser - access to the Miracle Worker aspect gives it an extra console, great weapons layout.
    9) Endeavor Tactical Star Cruiser - command spec access, nice and tough, good weapon layout, good console set from the Flagships.
    10) Hur'q Assembly Multi-Mission Sci Vessel - the holy trinity of torp goodies = Lt Cmdr Tac, Cmdr Sci, Lt Cmdr Command, plus a hanger for fun.

    Ah but don't forget you can bypass a lot of the torpedo global cooldowns with consoles such as the Ferrofluid Hydraulic Assembly and using the Entwined Tactical Matrices trait in conjunction with BFAW and CSV to allow x2 Torpedo Spread I's whilst High Yield is on cooldown allowing you keep DPS up.

    In my build I'm using the 3pc Morphogenic set and the Morphogenic weapon can go in any weapon slot and fire as either a cannon or beam. Plus the 3pc bonus from the morphogenic set is really nice.

    My second post was going to go in to that but Solace stole it from me! Tongue Out

    Interesting Traits to pick up (some are expensive):

    1) Entwined Tactical Matrices - gives you free TS1 from use of BFAW or CSV and vice versa. Can be used to triple-stack torp spreads (in fact you can actually get 4 in a row if you time firing right)
    2) Ceaseless Momentum - gives you a stacking bonus to kinetic dmg, kinetic resistance and reduces torp cool down every time you fire a torp.
    3) Target That Explosion - gives all nearby allies (pets, teammates etc) torp shot at the target when your next torp hits after using command or torp abilites.
    4) Reverberation (WARNING - EXPENSIVE) - every torp hit on target stacks up until 10 hit and then ALL their shields go offline for a a period that is affected by DrainX skill, can be over 10secs in some cases leaving them wide open and unshielded.

    Crafty use of traits can allow you now to get a lot of extra free torps shot at a target, from your pets, allies or just by using other abilities to get free weapon buffs.

    the only torpedo build ship I have is the Fleet T6 Akira class.... I use colony photons and kelvin photons<(for the rapid recharge) and no we don't mention that akira class getting taken out by the cardassian orbital weapon platform....(just like the Excelsior class; USS VALLEY FORGE) LOL

    holy cow thats alot of info....

    so then idea of a sci carrier torp build with romulan rep fighters with there added torps could be usefull just require the ship with commander slot which i dont know ships to well.. this is awsome but.. alot to take in

    For torpedo boats I'd recommend a fed toon as most of the traits required are premium ships that you can get really cheap on feds, Ceaseless momentum for example.

    The best ship for torpedo bombing is hands down the Tzenkethki Tzen-Tar Dreadnought. Its got Command and Miracle Worker seating which gives it insane power, plus torps are just busted haha.

    There are alternatives however such the Fleet Engle and T6 Veteran ships or the T6 Silik Suliban cruiser. One key thing to remember is that with a torpedo bomber shields are the enemy the more shield penetration you can get with a bomber the better for you.

    As Silek posted above I've put a build using the fleet engle and achieved over 400K dps with it, that should give you an idea of what you need.

    Not an expert on the subject of torp boats but the Faeht Intel Warbird comes to mind. Perhaps some kind of stealth bomber would be viable. At least I plan to try it at some point in time.

    Ah but don't forget you can bypass a lot of the torpedo global cooldowns with consoles such as the Ferrofluid Hydraulic Assembly and using the Entwined Tactical Matrices trait in conjunction with BFAW and CSV to allow x2 Torpedo Spread I's whilst High Yield is on cooldown allowing you keep DPS up.

    In my build I'm using the 3pc Morphogenic set and the Morphogenic weapon can go in any weapon slot and fire as either a cannon or beam. Plus the 3pc bonus from the morphogenic set is really nice.
    Entwined Tactical Matrices is a Tier 5 mastery trait so cant be used oin anything else eh? or am i not finding right one?

    It works well as a torp bomber but prepare to blow up a lot as you are left with no shields whilst briefly exposed from cloak to fire.
    Grab too much aggro and you can get insta-vaped.
