Telus Fibre is good, but it does come with some pretty hefty drawbacks: 1) Its regular price per month is $155 CDN 2) Telus has 2-year binding contracts that can ruin your credit score if you break 3) They have Data Caps and charge you $45-50 per 50gb that you go over (Thankfully the CRTC has regulations in place to prevent Bill Shock), 4) Fibre is only available in Cities, 5) Telus has CRAP customer service.

My ISP, Shaw, who I've been with for 15 years, while not having Gigabit speeds, it's highest tier plan is $120/mo, has no Datacap, doesn't have any contracts at all (They have a service agreement where if you break it, you pay out the remainder of the service plan and your credit is not affected), Shaw serves rural areas that Telus cannot, and has pretty good customer service.

So in short... illegal. That makes me feel better.

I am not entirely sure where this is coming from because, well primarily I am not with Telus? I am with Bell Alliant - not that it really matters, but I can't seem to keep myself from replying anyway

1) Yes, its steep. But comparable to the major triple play options here, unfortunately. I pay CAD $190 (130US now, taxes and all fees in) a month for fibre, unlimited telephone and a bunch of tv channels I don't really care about.
2) I do not have a contract in the sense of I can cancel at any time without penalty, I have actually done so a couple years back before switching again, to take advantage of the usual 'switch and get xx off for two years' deals (and yes, I could have cancelled within that two year period too, without penalty, they just hope you stick around).
3) I do not have datacaps... certainly nothing that would incur a charge.
4) I am also not in a city, but about 30 minutes outside of the largest city in New Brunswick in a fairly rural area. Although in general your point stands - its definitely not available everywhere.
5) I cannot comment on Bell's customer service as I've never needed them, but I have no doubt it will be painful.

Sadly, I can barely afford the lowest tier plan.
So I end up dragging up the rear and pulling down the average.

But that is on a 100Mbps down - unpublished up connection.

Wired from the PC to the router. (Cat 5e)
Wired from the router to the modem. (Cat 5e)
Wired from the modem to the splitter out back. (Exterior Coax)

This is the break point for Internet and TV
Wired from that splitter to the other splitter out back. (Exterior Coax)

This is the grounding block connection
Then it goes underground. (Exterior Coax)

Best I can do now I'm living in a rural rather than urban area. My PC is actually hardwired into the wi-fi disc that BT do with their routers and it works as if it was connected to the main box downstairs.

I think the odds of anyone here topping this are virtually non-existant. Ramage is the only other one so far even in spitting distance!

I am curious as to why the upload is actually faster than the download mind you.

I do want to upgrade that asap but my local cabinet hasn't yet been upgraded to anything 'super fast', Virgin Media don't cover this road, and FTTP is far too costly for a one-off residential install.
Structured cabling, two switches and dedicated wifi access points all seem a bit wasted after the house move, where the local FTTC is so poor.
