Greetings All! Welcome to the fourth edition of the 2020 Academy News! I am Michael Deputy Commandant of Starfleet Academy. This newsletter is an initiative from the Academy that is intended to keep you abreast of the latest news from across the United Federation of Planets.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

• FNS STAFF ADDITIONS:
  AlexRider stepped into his creative side and is the latest writer for FNS! It's great to see new writers come onboard, good luck with your position and I look forward to reading upcoming articles from you!
  
  
• SFHOLO STAFF ADDITIONS:
  Bedders has been serving Holodeck as XO since September 2017 and I have full confidence that he will continue to serve Holodeck as it's CO with the same distinction. (By Sammygm)
  
  Seapanda Following a long process and a very tough choice from a number of excellent applicants, I would like to announce Holodeck's new Executive officer: Captain Seapanda!
  
  It's important for a CO and XO to work well together, and Seapanda and I have been collaborating for a number of months. Being the dedicated and reliable person that he is, I look forward to working together for a long time. (By Bedders)
  
  Heyallo I would like to bring you more good news and announce that Heyallo has been promoted to Holodeck Quartermaster!
  
  Given his activity and recent hosting of the Division 2 event, he has more than earned this promotion and I am more than sure that he will do wonders with it. (By Seapanda)
  
  Chris Wilkinson has taken on the additional responsibilities of Event Officer. Enjoy your new position, I know you'll be phenomenal!
  
  Emmy has been a very active member of our community during her time here. Already well known on Discord and around the forums, she holds roles within the Academy and FNS, and is now looking for further challenges and to host events in a wider variety of games. And what better way to do that than as an Event Officer in Holodeck! (By Bedders)
  
  Souske will be bringing us back in time with some great events to come, as he takes on the Event Officer role. Looking forward to what you come up with!
  
  
• SFA STAFF ADDITION:
  AlexRider has already been noticed around the community welcoming new members and creating some phenomenal STO guides. It's very fitting that he has joined the Academy team, as RSO.
  
  Dracojan is eager to step into his first CL4 role as a RSO and we're happy to welcome him to the team! We look forward to working with you and appreciate you volunteering to take on this position.
  
  Lukekillzz should be a familiar name to many, whether it be in STO, SWTOR and other gaming areas. He now brings his knowledge and talents to the Academy, as RSO.
  
  
• VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
  The UFP would not be the place it is today without our volunteers who selflessly sacrifice their time to help out. Check out the currently open volunteer positions, and how to apply for one, here.

UPCOMING EVENTS
The United Federation of Planets has a good number of events coming up! You can sign up for any of these events here:

• THE DIVISION 2:
  Monday, 13th April at 2000 GMT/UFP; Event Officer Lars2510 In this event we will be getting people finished in the new expansion, and exploring the endgame together. If we get more than 4 people joining, we will split into teams, as the game limits us to 4 people per group.
  
  
• STELLARIS:
  Tuesday, 14th April at 1900 GMT/UFP; Event Officer Chris Wilkinson We'll be continuing the save game from last week to see where we end up from there.

• LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE:
  Tuesday, 14th April at 2030 GMT/UFP; Deputy Head of FAB Saelanna I have a kinship based on the Laurelin [EN-RP] server; the kinship is called the United Free Peoples and is open to any UFP member who wishes to join us as we complete deeds, level characters, complete group content, or just chill for a drink in the Prancing Pony.
  
  Everyone is welcome to bring whichever character they want to, and popular vote gets to decide what we set out to accomplish.
  
  
• STAR WARS THE OLD REPUBLIC:
  Wednesday, 15th April at 2100 GMT/UFP; Event Officer Lukekillzz Greetings fellow Commanders (or ex-Commanders)!
  
  This event will be focusing on veteran flashpoints, we will be running these all night to get better gear for our toons.
  
  Ideal classes would be tanks and healers as we have a few DPS people but if you only have DPS thats fine too!
  
  
• STAR WARS THE OLD REPUBLIC:
  Thursday, 16th April at 1900 GMT/UFP; Commanding Officer Bedders Greetings fellow Champions!
  
  Tonight we perform one or more dangerous missions to aid the Galaxy in it's glorious fight!
  
  How many missions is determined by the galaxy's most wealthy, as they send urgent requests for help from all corners of the galaxy.
  
  We may be up against members of the Hutt Cartels, smugglers, pirates, or a large faction such as the Republic or Empire!
  
  It is hoped that all attending will make it back in one piece, but as ever - last messages to loved ones will be passed across should you fall in battle.
  
  
• STELLARIS:
  Friday, 17th April at 1900 GMT/UFP; Commanding Officer Bedders This event will be a multi-hour session of Stellaris. We will be starting a new Multiplayer game following the Federation Update and will be playing cooperatively against AI opponents. If you wish to design your race please make sure you are there before the official start time so that you have plenty of time to customise.

• ELITE DANGEROUS:
  Saturday, 18th April at 1500 GMT/UFP; FNS Editor Infinity Hello Commanders,
  
  This is a weekly get-together for anyone who currently plays, or wishes to start playing, Elite: Dangerous.
  
  We may form wings if we're close enough to each other but primarily this is just an organised time to all play the same game and share knowledge & ask questions of each other, or to showcase our favourite ships to satisfy our vanity!
  
  
• STAR TREK ONLINE:
  Saturday, 18th April at 2000 GMT/UFP; Special Forces Commander Solace Greetings members! Welcome to Special Forces Saturday!Don't worry everybody is welcome to attend! This upcoming event, we'll be grinding out marks, accolades, doing Elite content or just grouping up for some jolly cooperation! (Praise the sun!)
  
  We'll be meeting on DS9 next the shipyard/exchange. Level 50+ character will be required! See you all there!
  
  
• STAR WARS THE OLD REPUBLIC:
  Saturday, 18th April at 2200 GMT/UFP; Event Officer Michael Greetings fellow Commanders (or ex-Commanders)!
  
  This event will help our guild rank up, by us completing our personal conquest goals together! It's a lot more enjoyable to get the weekly stuff done, if you're playing with friends.
  
  
• HALO:
  Sunday, 19th April at 1700 GMT/UFP; Event Officer Lars2510 In this event, we will be doing Halo stuff. This means anything... campaign co-op, firefight, slayer etc., just so long as grunt birthday party is on. We will do whatever the majority want on the night. If this involves campaign co-op, we will split up into smaller fireteams as necessary. Please make sure you have an up-to-date copy of the game (via either XBOX Game Pass for PC, or steam as they both work together), and a microphone for TeamSpeak. As it's a fun, team based shooter a mic is required for this event.
  
  
• STAR WARS THE OLD REPUBLIC:
  Sunday, 19th April at 1800 GMT/UFP; Event Officer Lukekillzz Greetings fellow Commanders (or ex-Commanders)!
  
  This event will be focusing on World Bosses, we will be running these all night.
  
  Ideal classes would be tanks and healers as we have a few DPS people but if you only have DPS thats fine too!
  
  
• STAR TREK ONLINE:
  Sunday, 26th April at 2000 GMT/UFP; Special Forces Commander Solace The Federation is gone… Earth.. Assimilated. The Borg are everywhere, resistance may indeed be futile. In this themed event we’re going to explore an alternate quantum reality in which the Borg successfully managed to assimilate the Federation in 2373.
  
  The last few remaining Federation starships are on the run, your resources are almost gone. Most of your crew… dead. Warp power is failing. The Borg are coming. You will be assimilated.
  
  We'll be meeting on DS9 next to the shipyard/exchange.
  
  

It is highly recommended that you keep one eye on the events page whenever you visit the site because random events are being added all the time!
