To be honest, with how divisive everything under the brand name is, I scratch my head as to how these shows DO survive at all. Because no sane or rational person can trust the words or opinions of CBS or even the detractors. There's been no proof as to the failures or successes of Discovery or Picard or even Lower Decks to back anything.

What I do know is that I avoid the shows because (to me) the stories run from sub par to very poor, and the acting is...well, I know first year community college students with better acting skills. Taste IS subjective after all so if you like those shows, good on you. Enjoy and have fun..I won't bring you down.

As for me. I'll wait until the Secret Hideout/Alex Kurtzman is out of Star Trek. Because...to me...Trek now is formulaic, typical, and generic.

I for one really struggled to get into Picard. The first episode was intriguing. However, following that it seemed to devolve into nothing. It took what seemed like FOREVER to get the plot moving forward even remotely. The best episode I watched was the one with Picard on the Cube, it was interesting to see his reaction to a Borg environment again and confronting his past as Locutus. I dropped it after that though, I guess I felt like that was going to be the peak and was worried the end might be so bad as to spoil it entirely.

So yeah, not a fan. Discovery was *ok*, flashy graphics and cool space battles, aside from that though it was average.

I'm much more interested for "Strange New Worlds" as they've confirmed they're wanting to return to the old "alien/planet of the week" formula to make it more episodic like past Trek shows. Makes it much easier to pick up and watch, wheras Discovery you kind of have to start from the beginning and go forwards. It's not something you can really just pick up and watch one episode of, as it wouldn't make a great deal of sense.

I'm looking forward to season 3 of Discovery. and more of Picard. To me it's Star Trek I like all of it in it's own place. There's another rumour appeared, but given the original source of it, take this one with enough salt to make the Dead Sea look like fresh drinking water. I don't think it's real and the only reason I'm even mentioning it is for discussion and debunking.

The rumour goes that Emma Watts, who is the film chief at Paramount, wants Kurtzman out. This part could be semi-believable by itself, but what really stretches it is that it also says that Lower Decks, Prodigy, Short Treks and Picard are all on the scrapheap. Discovery would end with S3 and the production crew on the upcoming SNW would be replaced.

I'll stress again - I don't think this one is real if you see it doing the rounds.

A small point, however one I think is very much valid for the newer Trek shows. They're a lot more gory and violent than they used to. I spent my youth watching TNG, DS9 and Voyager with my parents. 6:45PM on BBC2 and later on Sky .

We watched the two-parter pilot to Discovery together. After that though I watched it by myself, and I know they wouldn't have liked it. Especially in Discovery Season 2, where the Klingon Chancellor (L'rel?) holds up Tyler and her infants severed head... I mean.. WHAT THE ♥♥♥♥?

Star Trek used to be a FAMILY show, where parents would enjoy it and kids would become fascinated with science and technology. Hopefully also picking up some valuable life lessons from the moral story the show is portraying. Now it's strictly for adults. I really hate that aspect of it.

It's also quite dumbed down, seeing as the (it never was trekkies) target audience is well... Not the sharpest tool in the shed. I did post it in another topic a while ago: Take your time and watch some videos of Major Grin - you have to go back a month or two to get the jucie stuff.
He, in a funny way, deconstructs how the writers of the J.J. Lens Trek movies but also STD, Picard and Lower Decks take something ordered on bad-dragon.com and shove it up the poop deck of the established lore, characters and the general franchise.
