Mass Effect Legendary Edition

It looks like EA have announced a Legendary Edition for the Mass Effect trilogy!

From their blog post, they have been "hard at work updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games."

Their stated goal was "not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form." - so no recreation in the Frostbite engine I'm afraid!

It doesn't state that it will include all of the DLC and extras but the outcry if they don't would be immense:
"Mass Effect Legendary Edition will include single-player base content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus promo weapons, armors, and packs – all remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD."

And finally they have a release time of "Spring 2021 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with forward compatibility and targeted enhancements on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. More information to come in the new year!"

Oh, and at the bottom of their post they cite that "Meanwhile here at BioWare, a veteran team has been hard at work envisioning the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe. We are in early stages on the project and can’t say any more just yet, but we’re looking forward to sharing our vision for where we’ll be going next."
Bioware are working on the next Mass Effect? Oh boy this should be good!

Great news! Excellent news!

I'm a ME veteran and I just loved playing Mass Effect 1 - 3. It's one of the best game series I've ever played. Period. Andromeda... well, not so much.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to visit the Citadel again, meet old friends and shoot old foes!

This is good news indeed. Long rumoured and now it'll be here. I spent many an hour on my 360 with the original game. Andromeda was almost a franchise killer.

The rumour of another ME has been around for a while so it's good to get confirmation that they are indeed working on something - just remains to be seen if they'll carry on from Andromeda or head back to the Milky Way.

This is great, never got to play the original, hard times.

I honestly hope the new game is set in the andromeda galaxy again, maybe in the distant future? So much potential still exists in the setting, why waste it.

For those Andromeda Detractors...

I just recently restarted it and with mods, the game is a more enjoyable time. The game wasn't as bad as the media and rabid masses made it out to be. Was it a great game, no, but it wasn't the raging dumpsterfire it was made out to be.

I'm excited for what they have planned for ME1 though, its my favourite from the series, but its systems and controls were a hot mess.

This will be awesome! I'd imagine and hope the update especially for ME1, would include a fix for some lighting bug on the snowy planet that I have to always use some console command to fix just for that level . I've loved the series and wish more games would follow the import thing and improve on it. Andromeda oddly grew on me as there's just a lot to do, but I know this will just be for the core games 1-3.
