General Overview : Mariella is polite and thoughtful with keen insights into most situations.

Strengths & Weaknesses : Mariella is a skilled negotiator and would rather talk an opponent round than use force but she is not afraid to use it when needed. She has a sarcastic streak a mile wide. She is also fiercely loyal to her crew. She does have tendency to lose objectivity when someone presses her redhead button although she has learned to channel her anger since the war.

Ambitions : Mariella isn't chasing a promotion to Commodore of a starbase and is perfectly happy in the captain's chair for now.

Hobbies & Interests : Mariella is fascinated by stellar phenomenon and studies stellar cartography in her limited spare time. She is a fan of movies, especially fantasy films which provide escapism.

History
Personal History : Born to Wyndham and Ellen on the familiy's estate in Herefordshire, England, Mariella's childhood was one of some privilege. Her mother's career with the Federation afforded them some luxury, even for an Earth family. When Claire was born, Mariella's mother devoted herself to her career full time and so the children were raised by their father and several tutors and household staff.

At 17, Mariella was encouraged by her father to attend Starfleet Academy where she discovered her love of flying. After graduation Mariella served on several starships performing exploration duties. As a shuttle pilot, Mariella obtained her nickname 'Jangles' for the good luck chimes she always used to hang over her pilot's seat. Mariella's first command was the USS Snowdonia, an Intrepid class ship which was destroyed during the second Borg invasion of Earth space. Mariella escaped in a pod and, after recovering from her injuries, was reassigned to the USS Black, a Steamrunner class on the front lines of the Dominion war. With the end of the war, Mariella continued as captain of the USS Black until she was given orders to report to DS9 to take command and oversee the refit and resupply of the USS Ares.
