Good news if you don't like CBS All Access and I know some don't. I must say It has never been an issue for me getting them on Amazon and Netflix in the UK but I guess it will be good to see them all under one roof it must mean that they are still serious with both shows and I suspect we will see them still extended beyond the seasons they have already authorised.



We have exclusively learned that CBS is working on bringing its new Star Trek shows to Netflix. Currently the company has four new Trek series running on its streaming network CBS All-Access: Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks and Short Treks. All four have struggled to find an audience and while some might blame the quality of the shows, my sources at CBS tell me they think the big problem is getting the word out about CBS All-Access.

They’ve tried to raise awareness in the past, by broadcasting some Star Trek: Discovery episodes on CBS network proper, but it didn’t work. The show only scored a 0.2 rating when it aired on network television. So now, according to my source, CBS is considering bringing some of its streaming Star Trek programming to Netflix instead.

This source is the same source that made me the first reporter anywhere to break the news that Wonder Woman 1984 was going direct to streaming. They’re heavily involved in various streaming deals and though I’m unable to reveal my source’s identity I’ve verified where they got their information. It’s reliable.

According to my exclusive source CBS believes that by offering up some of its Star Trek shows to Netflix users, viewers who are already primed to spend money on streaming, they’ll be able to get crossover to CBS All-Access. So they’re in negotiations to bring Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, and Star Trek: Lower Decks to Netflix.

Star Trek already has a strong presence on Netflix. Several other older Star Trek shows like Star Trek: Enterprise are currently available to watch there via legacy streaming deals with Netflix. So a Star Trek fan base does exist on Netflix and in many cases they still haven’t crossed over to CBS All-Access to watch any of the new Trek programming. It makes sense that CBS would want to court those viewers.

Whether it’ll only be older episodes of Discovery, Picard, and possibly Lower Decks which will show up on Netflix, or whether they’ll actually get to air new ones when they’re released, remains to be seen. Netflix would obviously like new episodes, but CBS selling them the rights to those would probably mean they’re finally giving up on CBS All-Access as a going concern.

It’s worth noting that CBS and Netflix have already closed some other deals recently, deals which would bring other new CBS shows to the uber-sized streaming platform. For instance, CBS just licensed the first season of their new show Evil & Unicorn to Netflix rather than hoarding it for proprietary viewing on their own streaming CBS All-Access platform. There’s an established pathway for the two companies to work together, and working together on Star Trek is the biggest play possible.

All the TV series from Enterprise to TOS is on Netflix and Prime, so that IS a big draw, at least from older folks who saw them air on primetime. I know movies TMP to Insurrection is on Prime, don't know why Nemesis isn't, had to watch that one from my DVD collection. But hearing Disco and Picard coming to Netflix and or Prime is great. I don't have CBS All Access, and I have NEVER seen Disco or Picard yet due to this, (didn't want to pay and add another streaming service lol)... so I'm excited to watch them both. Sure every show or movie has its faults but it is "Star Trek" so it is at the very least worth one run through watch. So this is some good news to hear it is coming to other streamers. Hope to hear a release date too.

Here in Belgium discovery was already on Netflix since the beginning. But picard was not. Neither was lower decks.
Will they be also in other countries then the uk you think?

The trouble is these days is that there's just too many streaming platforms trying to get into the market and unless you're one of the big guns, you don't really make any impact.

I don't mind having to pay for 1 or 2 platforms to get access to stuff, but if it's spread over 5 or 6, people just won't bother.

Correct. I also pay for 2 platforms, that should be enough, and I think Netflix is one of the biggest, so why not adding those on their network in the first place? But that’s the war of who has the most money like it is with everything these days.

I get Netflix as part of my Sky Q package, Amazon Prime mostly for the savings on delivery charges (the Prime Video is a nice bonus) and I pay for Disney+; I think I’m covered for streaming services.

We have Netflix for the kids stuff and the various series we enjoy like all the Trek shows, and we have Prime mainly because we take advantage of the free fast delivery and the streaming comes with it.
We occasionally drop in/out with NowTV if there's something on we like such as with GoT previously.

We won't to pay for any more streaming services and the market is starting to get too widly spread in some respects as shows are all over the place. It's better if streaming services would bundle together like TV packages of old so you get a group rather than needing a million different services just to keep up with shows you like; or just keep shows in one place (at least Star Trek seems to be sticking to Netflix in the UK which is good).
