** Warning ** You will need to exercise keyboard discipline or get set for Mr Toads wild ride!
You’ll need a maco keyboard for this which can be a bit pricy. Examples are:
- Logitech G910 Orion Spark $109.99 on Amazon (must be on sale?)
- Corsair K95 RGB $189.99
Note, I’m using the F and G keys. You can use any characters you want. These may even be the default.
In STO, go the keybind tab of options. Find the “Targeting & Interaction” section and set “Interact” to F. Scroll all the way down to the “Miscellaneous” section and set “Roll Need on Loot” to G.
Next on the Options “Basic” tab make sure “Enable Auto-Loot” is enabled. STO is ready.
I use the G910 so this will be from that point of view. In the Logitech software hit the Customize G-Keys and create a Star Trek Online profile and make sure it is highlighted. The profile will make sure the macro only works when STO is running. In the profile the 2 exe’s are GAMECLIENT.EXE and STAR TREK ONLINE.EXE. Save it.
With the STO profile highlighted right click the G-key you want to use to start/stop the macro. I use G5. Set the maco to output FG. At the bottom in the “Repeat Options” select “Toggle” and set the delay to 1400 (1.4 seconds). Keyboard is ready
Here’s the keyboard discipline part. When you enter a TFO or mission and the action starts, hit the G5 key (or whatever you selected) and begin vacuuming up loot and selecting need. Remember, you need to get near the loot to vacuum it up. I’ve found that it will vacuum up most of the drops as they occur so your screen is less cluttered. When the TFO mission ends make sure to turn off the macro. I usually hit the chat window to make sure the macro is off before selecting rewards.
There are some dangers.
The F will click the first selection of any popup/dialog box. So, if you want to read it, turn off the macro. It is handy for missions you have been through a lot like the Delta Patrol “Wanted”, you do the initial fight and then get the recruited dialog. The Macro bam bam’s through that real quick so you can keep fighting.
And some areas like parts the Dyson Sphere are not macro friendly and you will pick up missions as you fly around. And then once you get the mission you get the pop up saying you haven’t finished it yet. Annoying!
If you forget to turn it off at the end of the TFO/mission and back at Space Dock you’re sanding to close to a bank/supplier/mail or anything to interact the F will trigger them. Just hit the chat window and toggle the macro off.
You can lower the delay if you get impatient. Just remember the keyboard can only output so many keys per second and STO can only process so many keys before it starts skipping them.
Two anomalies I’ve encountered. There appears to be a buffer in the keyboard or STO and you may see keys appearing after you toggle the macro off for a few seconds. Sometime you’ll be in STO and the macro stops working, usually after several hours of play. The keyboard forgets you are playing STO. All you need to do is alt-tab out and alt-tab back to fix it.
Enjoy

Instead of using the chat box to check what keys are being sent, I use the Carnac program to display them on a separate monitor:

Thanks for the guide on loot.
