Well... I have some good news and some bad news for you.

The bad news: You need to Read This. It's 14 pages and a little wordy and dense. You can skim most of it, but pay attention to the section on cooling GPUs. GPUs are a special beast, and if you've never done it before, you can get tripped up.

The good news: Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.

The better (for you) news: Thermal Grizzly ist deutsch!! 😁 So you can just go to the factory store. (Not really, but I had to say it.)
Give attention to the guide Mentioned User Taku has linked. Applying thermal paste on a GPU is a bit different than a CPU. GPUs don't have a heat spreader like a CPU normally has, and thermal paste is applied directly on the die.

I see, thanks so much for the hint, Taku! Smile
So I'm going to order some thermal paste. Any recommendations what I should get or shouldn't get?

Supplemental: I've cleaned the inside of my PC this afternoon. It was a bit dirty and dusty. Idle temperature is not at 42 degrees.

    Arctic MX-4.
Easy to use, lasts years without degrading, readily available everywhere. And its a one of the best performers around (but not suitable for extreme overclocking). This has been my 'go to' for years now.

Kryonaut is another top pick, it's not quite as good as MX-4 in regular scenarios but is more effective at dealing with extreme temperatures.

Before anyone suggests it, Arctic Silver 5 is one to avoid. Its not changed much since being created, it remains viscous which apparently is a selling point however its electrically conductive (so an automatic no for most enthusiasts), and has spent the last decade living on its reputation from past glory.

Check out a few guides on how to change GPU thermal paste before giving it a try. Its pretty basic in principle but the heatsinks on some graphics cards can be overly complicated.

Thank you all so much! You're the best! Smile

I'm going to give it a try, I think. Wish me luck not to blow up the whole thing! Wink

Well, to give you an update: Yesterday I played STO and Farm Together for hours without any black screens or problems so installing an older driver (v19.12.1) as well as disabling the "Enhanced Sync" option seem to have worked very well. I also took a look at the temperatures while playing. In STO they (sometimes) went up to 88 degrees, in Farm Together up to 78 degrees. STO seems to be quite demanding...!

Anyways, I'm happy that it appears to be working, but I guess sooner or later a new card must be bought.
