Best set up for retro pc gaming?

    So I have been on a bit of a retro kick atm, getting nostalgic for 90s pc games. Now the pre-95 Dos games are easy with dosbox and early Win 95 games seem OK to install and run on Win 10 but I am having issues with late 90s games refusing to install or run with various compatability settings.

    So I thought a dedicated Win 98 environment would be best but I'm not sure the best way. Do a get an older pc to try and run it? Do I dual boot on my Ryzen 9/2080ti pc? Or do I try a virtual environment?

    Please give me any opinions, advice, tips or trick you know of..

    I did this a while back and found the easiest way to do it was to put together an old P4 System i the bits laying around for wanted to play Black and White and LOTR battle for Middle Earth had to get a AGP card for it but lucked out and got a NOS one for it i started off with 95 then 98 and so on in the end i threw on ME as it was the easiest one to get compatibility with

    Just like Jester, from time to time I built a PC with whatever hardware is available or can find. A Pentium 4 (Prescott) is the next one, probably with a 8800 GTX or similar.

    Ok so virtual seems to be the easiest thing to start with but I was wondering how these virtual environments handle the emulation of older 3dfx video cards of the late 90s and early 80s?

    Will i need to install 'drivers' or something?
