A little while ago in the one of the meetings, I flagged up a title called Outriders, it's a 3rd person shooter that has RPG and looter shooter elements in it by Polish developers People Can Fly. It's due out on April 1st and there's currently a demo version available which contains a good chunk of the game's first part. People were farming it quite heavily which forced the devs to step in and adjust things.

Storywise, it's the standard Earth is destroyed routine and the last of humanity has arrived at a new planet called Enoch to rebuild, but things (as always) don't go to plan and sets the events of the game in motion. It can be played solo or in a 3 man team, features skill trees and has a cover system much like Gears of War did. The demo is quite enjoyable, though I've not played a lot of it as I don't want to spoil things going into the full game, but progress will carry over to the full release. As an extreme example, one player is known to have clocked up over 250 hours on the demo as of March 13th - in the days since it was released, that averages out at 17 hours a day...

There are a few caveats however. While not a live service game, it does require us to be logged on to the servers at all times. If you're interested in PvP, there isn't any. The demo is also a bit rough, there's some weird things happening if you change your keybinds for example as they suddenly don't do what they're meant to.

Square Enix is the publisher and while it may end up turning out to be another game that'll be forgotten in a year or 2, it does look rather interesting, so if you've not heard of it or you're on the fence, have a look at the demo and see what you think.

There's also a rumour that it may be coming to the Microsoft Game Pass if you've got access to that, but that's all it is for the moment.

Saw this thread and thought I might as well give it a try, played the demo just now and I had a lot of fun! Using the powers was really cool and the story ain't half bad. My only complaints so far are the lack of decent character customization at the start and the always online stuff. My connection was cut for only a second while playing and so I got sent back to the main menu, don't really see the need for that if you're not online at the time.

I've been able to test this game due to my work a couple months back. While it was still in Alpha, I'm still not happy personally with its progress.

Square Enix in general, the way they released Marvel Avengers, doesn't really leave me wanting this anymore. Gaming industry definitely leverage marketing strategies now days and are able to get themselves out there, problem seems to be when it comes to delivering a satisfying experience.

I'll probably experience this game again since I do have work tie up with them soon TM, so I'll reserve remainder judgement for them later.

Outriders is now live on PC, though I'm not playing right this moment because it's 0337 and I'm sleepy lol


Once I put a little bit of time into it to see how it plays, I'll be throwing an event up =)

I've put in nearly 3 hours of this tonight and I have to say, I am enjoying it. Definitely a keeper for me and out of the 4 available classes, I've gone with the Technomancer.

The optimisation could be a lot better and there has been numerous server issues, but there's just something about the game that appeals to me. The music is pretty good and I found out afterwards that it's Inon Zur behind it, who did the soundtrack for Fallout starting with the third game.

It reminds me a bit of Anthem, but it's in a much better condition than it ever was.

There was an option to select DX12 or DX11 for the client that popped up for me today. From what I've read online the DX12 client will normally give higher FPS but DX11 is smoother performance. I've switched to 11 and the stuttering issues I was seeing seem to have gone or have at least massively declined.

From what I've played of the demo it was a fun 3-person shooter. Griffin and I had big problems connecting to each other, but once connected it seemed fine. I wouldn't say it's worth full price though, from my experience with it. If it goes on sale down to £15-20 ish I will probably get it.
