Hi,

Just downloaded Star Wars the old republic via steam.
Is there still much activity going on there and/or has the UFP also have some kind of guild there?
Am not such a big Star Wars “freak” but always ready to get to know new games (or old ones that I haven’t tried out yet.)

We do have guilds on both the Republic and Sith side of things, but there's not been much activity as our most active members are taking a break at the moment. I do have it installed as well so if you want to join, I think I can process invites but I'm not sure.

First I will have to make up my character and start playing. After that I will take a look at how the guilds work.

I found a thread on this subforum called Republic Special Operations - Guild Invasions with the last post made on dec 12 2020, is that the stickied thread you mean? As I see this correctly, there were guild missions a few months ago, right?

As you can see I am the named person for SWTOR. Nothing is really happening in game as far as the UFP is concerned as my main focus is on LoTRO at the moment. I can process invites should you wish to join either the Republic or Sith guilds.

I installed this again yesterday after some KoTOR remake news brought back the nostalgia feels.
Going to finish the last two story arcs. And maybe make a new Sith Warrior DPS. And re-arrange the entire HUD. And re-learn everything!

Today I have set my first steps into the game. (Finally)

What I first noticed in gameplay is that it is not that easy to be in combat with you weapons or maybe it has something to do with my keybind settings?
Any thoughts?

What sort of issues are you having? It's an MMO and troopers are ranged characters, so you auto-attack on right-click and then use abilities on the number keys.

Welcome, are you on the Darth Malgus server? If so, I'll send some credits your way.

Once you complete the tutorial planet, you can travel to the Republic fleet which acts as a central hub for most things and a place to acquire equipment.
You dont need to do every mission that you see on a planet, I focus on just the story arc for each class and get those done asap, with a few Heroic Missions or Flashpoints along the way.
Every class gets split into two advanced classes which allow specialization into certain combat roles (the usual MMO RPG trifecta of DPS, Tank, Healer). Easiest way I found to progress through the story is utilizing a companion as a Healer and focusing on DPS myself, then resetting my Advanced Class to something else if that was my goal for the character.

That is just the problem. How do you do that, auto attack? I just started this game yesterday for the first time and all I could figure out at that time was to click an enemy (or select closed enemy and then use the number keys yes) but it doesn’t feel right, but maybe that is cause I am used to play on STO as MMO and there ground combat has much easier controls.

That is just the problem. How do you do that, auto attack? "Auto attack" is basically the skill the game puts on your 1 as default. As trooper that should be hammer shot. It has no cooldown, no cost and can be spammed until you or your enemy are dead.

The combat system in SWTOR is a normal tab-targeting combat style. It's around in MMOs since WoW (or maybe earlier than that, no idea) and is quite different from STO. If you are not familiar with games like this: a click on an enemy (or pressing tab, which is where the name comes from) will target it, then you can use your abilities to deal damage. Using abilities incurs a global cooldown (GCD) of 1.5 seconds during which you can't use anything. You build your combat around that and chain abilities together as soon as the GCD is over.
