I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this but I thought I would share something I've stumbled across. It is part of Star Trek literature in that it documents an aspect of Star Trek history. However, would an admin please move it if there is a more appropriate forum for it?
YouTube Movies has posted for viewing the video "William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge". It's a (to me) fascinating behind-the-scenes look of Gene Roddenberry's life at the time of the creation of Star Trek: The Next Generation and it discusses the issues and challenges which he and those around him had to deal with.
This is not some fan posting a hacked version. It is a legal version, with ads, provided by YouTube Movies and is a temporary posting, like all such postings by YouTube Movies, so it will not be available for viewing forever.
The video can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfYfeWEgnxU

Thank you Hevelin for providing this!
Looking at it now...
((Finished watching it))
Awesome doc! I recommend everyone watch this as it gives inside information regarding just how difficult it was for the blend of writers, Gene, and producers to create the TNG. Also gives you insight as to how close Patrick Stewart came to not being the Captain based on something very superficial!
Thanks again to Hevelin for this great find!!!!
A must watch and you will enjoy it!

I will have to check this out. Growing up with TNG, watching this will be very nostalgic.

The early years of TNG were chaotic, and to be perfectly frank, had Gene Roddenberry, Leonard Maizlish, and Maurice Hurley been left to their devices without studio or Writers Guild of America (WGA) intervention, TNG would have died in the cradle.
Gene Roddenberry's insistence that there be no intra-crew conflict and other similar writing guidelines lead to some hilariously bad episodes (Roddenberry was a great show creator, but a lousy writer), Leonard Maizlish was rewriting scripts (in violation of WGA union rules), and the firing of McFadden by Hurley over her bringing up how sexist her character was being portrayed are prime examples.
There's a reason why the quality of episodes increased as Gene, Leonard and Maurice left the show. Season 3 onwards were markedly better.
