    Not what i was expecting

It started interestingly but not what i was expecting

    If not watched be warned

    Main Cast Breakdown

He-Man / Adam (Chris Wood) for me was flat as He-Man his voice did not have the power and dominace i expected to hear on screen that was not to say i did not like him but i was expecting more, I didnt like the appearance of this portrayal of He-Man either and would have liked it to be more of a look of the original but felt it was more like they had him like one the remakes than the original.

Skeletor (Mark Hamill) i thought was good again for the little bit of the role we seen him. Reminded me very much of the original Skeletor in the portrayal.

Evil-Lyn (Lena Headey) I could listen to her voice all night and I found her take on Evil-Lyn an interesting take on the character character wise i thought she resembelled the original more than many the others though she still had some new visuals that i was not expecting to see but did not dislike them in the way they applied to her character.

Teela (Sarah Michelle Gellar) was the one i was concerned when i seen her in this casting role though she surprised me and i liked what she did with the character but was surprised she turned out to be the main focal point to the story.

Man-At-Arms / Duncan (Ian Cunningham) i thought nailed the Man at Arms part in terms of what he offered visually i would have like him to resemble the Man At Arms in the original.

    The Smaller Roles

Scare Glow (Tony Todd) Whats not to love about Tony Todd in anything he does he is epic and if i had a choice the voice i would prefer as Skeletor it would have been him taking nothing from Hamil as i said above he is good in the role but i feel todd would offer more.

Tri-Klops (Henry Rollins) Wasn't bad in the role not what i was expecting adn the Motherboard thing was poor imo.

Moss-Man (Alan Oppenheimer) not a major role but good to see a link to the original show in Oppenheimer's role my fave part was seeing him in the after show telling how he was touched by fans comments on the original messages you used to get at the end the original show.

Orko (Griffin Newman), Beastman (Kevin Michael Richardson), Roboto (Justin Long), Sorceress (Susan Eisenberg), Trap Jaw (Diedrich Bader), Adra (Tiffany Smith), and Cringer (Stephen Root) all felt like they was spare parts and some of them made no sense in the role they portrayed other than to say hey here are some old fan faves even though Adra was nothing than a brief mention in comics so made less sense of all other than to offer a female companion to Teela.

    The Former Eternians

I can not say i liked it nor that i hated it they went in a direction i was not expecting as i have already said, its not the He-Man i remember but they we live in a different time now. I will keep an open mind on what they do with the second part when its released but i suspect i will be on the fence till then.

Wasn't bad. I thought the entire 5 episodes were mainly rebuilding or reacquainting us with the background characters which all have been changed a bit, except for Man at Arms, he's pretty much the exact same.

Looking forward for the next series of episodes...

I generally agree with your take on things, Jester. I didn't like how Teela reacted to finding out who He-Man was in episode 1, especially considering how much more difficult that information was for the King. It didn't show a lot of maturity or professionalism on her part. I understand why the writers did it, but it was an easy way to move the plot in the direction that they wanted...it wasn't a smart or realistic way though.

I know that this show has been catching a lot of flak from viewers, rightfully so, but it is only halfway done. I suspect that things will turn around in the second half of the show. I'm not a fan of the first half, but I'm willing to see the show through before rendering final judgement. I never was a He-Man fan, but I generally enjoy sci-fi and fantasy shows as a genre, if they are well done. This one has me on the fence. There are genuine He-Man fans on the writing team, and I would hope that they wouldn't let this show crash and burn. It's fashionable these days to subvert expectations, and this show has done so thus far. Hopefully, there'll be a course correction in the second half, and the fans will get what they wanted, and expected!

If you're a Masters of the Universe fan, watching this now may cause you some undue frustration...or worse, based on viewer reviews so far! I'm actually surprised that Netflix decided on this release strategy, of releasing in two parts. As it is, they are sitting on a tsunami of negative fan backlash. My suggestion...wait and watch the series as a whole.

Interesting reading these reviews so far. I'm old enough to have grown up during the "golden age" of this show, but I never got into it. I'd considered watching this new series just to see what I may have missed out on, but I'm thinking now maybe I should go in with a more open mind and not equate it to the past.

Then again, given how toxic fandoms have been about newer Star Trek, Star Wars, and other long-lived IPs finding new life in recent years, I'm wondering if the feedback showing up online might just be similar to those other fandom uproars.
