    Deep Space 9
    Quark's Bar
    Around 0545Hrs

    Attachment 16012

Eliana Had just arrived late yesterday evening and decided to get an overnight bunk on the station. Once she got up, she threw her uniform on and headed to the Promenade, looking for a bit of morning grub. At this hour, none of the shops were open, so she took a lap around the Promenade. She happened upon Quark as he was entering his Bar.

    - Excuse me, sir? Are you opening?

Quark looked at Eliana and gave a toothy smile.

    - Why yes! Come on in!

She smiled widely and followed the Ferengi into the bar. She sat at the bar and placed the bag she had at the end of the bar.

    - So what can i get you?

She thought for a moment, then an idea came across her mind.

    - Shakshuka and a cup of triple-strong Rakdajino.

Quark's eyes widened at this. He never heard of anyone having a coffee THAT strong....save for one person.

    - Bit strong for a Trill, don't you think?

Eliana quietly laughed. It wasn't unusual that she got this query.

    - Half Trill, actually. And no, not for me.

Quark nodded and headed to fetch her order. As he came back, his workers started to trickle in. Quark scowled at them all, then set her breakfast down on the bar in front of her.

    - So, what's a nice half-Trill female like you doing out in the back end of the galaxy?

Eliana took a sip of her coffee as she explained.

    - I was told to bundle onto a transport and received orders to report to the Ares. They gave me no reason as to why I'm being moved to a shipboard assignment.

Quark laughed at this. He considered Starfleet a bit too....clean for his liking. He took a cloth and started wiping down the bar.

    - At least there's a bit of dirt under the nails of a good twoshoes Starfleet.

Eliana ignored this. An announcement came over the station's comms.

=^=Now hear this, Now hear this. All new officers for USS Ares, report to assignments officer immediately. Repeating...=^=

Eliana heard this, scarfed the rest of her meal down an pulled ten slips of latinum out of her bag and placed it on the bar. Quark smiled, took the payment, then cleared away the plates as Eliana rushed out of the bar. At the same time, Admiral Dalton entered, sitting down at the seat that Mourn usually takes.

    - I have a problem that needs solving.

Quark smiled widely, knowing exactly what he was talking about.

    - Give me a few days to ask around.

    USS Ares
    Deck 2 - Biiqs' Office

After his talk with the Captain, Biiqs emerged from the Ready Room and strode back onto the bridge. As Watson bean to slowly rise from the command chair, Biiqs gestured for him to stay seated. “Just a minute, Kodin I have to run down to my office, and I’ll be right back. You still have the Bridge.”

Watson nodded and slid back down into the chair. “Aye, sir. By the way, no latent subspace signals located yet. Task Force has been notified to go to high alert.”
“Thank you.” Biiqs entered the lift for the brief ride to Deck 2 and contacted Thane immediately upon entering his office, placing the call over his viewscreen.
    “Tarquin to Thane”

It would take a moment for the viewscreen to come on and it would give a shot of Thane at his desk in the Security Complex. "Yes?" It's a curt, straight-to-the-point response.

“I suppose you’re wondering why we’re at Yellow Alert. The captain just informed me that she was visited in her stateroom by the hologram of Admiral Storm. Bizarrely enough, he had a warning for us: The Orion Syndicate is trying to get their hands on the Ares’s technology.” Biiqs waved his hand dismissively to ward off any questions at that point. “Whether or not it’s true or false, and the question of why someone who attacked this ship would want to suddenly help it, we must be prepared for all eventualities, so let’s put some things into action before we figure out more information.

“Here’s what I need from you. Number one, we need to see how it was possible for him to hack our holographic communications system and invade the captain’s privacy without triggering a security alert. Sounds like the perfect job for our resident whiz kid, the van Hulftoid boy, with perhaps some assistance from the outfitter’s department. Two, I’d like you to set up some drills on rapid security responses to boarding situations. Get with Chief Fatima Khaira on emergency site-to site protocols to make sure security can get to where it needs to be quick to overwhelm any Orion or Storm-affiliated presence. Establish chokepoints around Engineering, the bridges, computer core, and other essential locations. I realize you’re just beginning to slide into the department, so if you need any help with anything, such as running training sessions or whatnot, just give me a call.”

He listened as Tarquin went on about the Yellow Alert, the potential threat, and even the request. He remained silent though until he was able to speak up. "It would be unlikely for the Syndicate to go after a Sovereign Class Cruiser. Not at least without something of size or scope to match it. If what he has stated is true then we need to know what technology they are after. If it is something specific or if there is some installed systems that are classified."

"As for the 'Hack' on the Holo Comm, it would not be hard to send a direct transmission to someone on a ship they or someone aligned to that individual have served on. It would be a subtle thing to redirect communications to a specific individual whilst that system is doing its job. Allot easier to manipulate. However, I will get a specialist on it. As for the request of the Drills, Security Personnel are already running rapid response drills against a variety of different opponents and scenarios including 'What-If' scenarios. This includes Site-to-Site transport use, though I do not approve of it as it leaves the teams vulnerable to attack as they materialize. I am making sure however that they will be able to know the fastest and most efficient routes to the different locations of import throughout the ship. I'll look into the feasibility of chokepoints and other defensive measures. I will suggest though, Commander that you do not buy in on the hand that you suspect is being held. Keep these preparations and reactions on the subtle side. Least they have informants onboard who will inform Storm of this."

Biiqs listened and nodded while Thane spoke. "Very good points, Lieutenant. We're dealing with a lot of unknowns now, but we have to prepare for what we find reasonable. I'm glad you've already started intensive drills, and your point about the site to site transports is valid. It can be at times hard to coordinate beam in points when you have a moving line of battle, so its good to have defensive personnel that are thoroughly drilled on unassisted movement. And yes, keeping preparations as quiet as possible is a great idea, considering how many issues we've had in the past. I'll speak with you again soon. Tarquin out.

    About 30 minutes later

    Attachment 16012

Eliana boarded the Ares soon after leaving Quark's. When she boarded, she received her room assignment. Ellie took a moment to stow her bags in those quarters and proceed to where she was ordered to go, which was The Galaxy.

When she got there, she noticed the captain sitting in front of one of the tables that was situated in front of the forward windows. She approached, snapped to attention and gave a sharp, quick salute.

    - Lieutenant Eliana Daughtry-Doral, reporting as ordered, sir!

The Captain chuckled a bit. She never seen an officer be so....formal.

    - Loosen up before you sprain something.

Ellie relaxed a bit, but still maintained attention stance. Jones motioned for her to sit down and Ellie complied. The Captain grabbed a padd from the sill of one of the windows and started to quickly read through it.

    - Welcome to the Ares, Ms. Doral.
    - It's Daughtry, Ma'am. Doral is the name of my Sluggo.
    - I'm Sorry...Sluggo?
    - Yes, Ma'am. An affectionate name I gave my symbiote.

Mariella blinked quickly. She's never heard of a symbiote referred to like that. She shook her head and quickly went on.

    - You haven't had any time on starships? I find that a bit concerning.

Ellie smiled a bit, she knew this question was coming.

    - That's not by choice, Ma'am. I was apart of a team on Starbase 1 that was updating some old star charts with files and scans from ships that have been out in those areas of space. There was about 2,500 star charts that needed updating.

Mariella nodded, then scrolled to a section of Daughtry's record.

    - So, you are into speedskating?

Ellie lit up like a Christmas tree at this mention.

    - Yes, ma'am. It's my passion. I've been to the Olympics twice.

Jones nodded, then laid the padd down.

    - I seen that you also have a double major in Astrophysics, correct?

    Ellie nodded and smiled widely.

    - Yeah. I was advised not to take such a heavy load at the academy, but I was studying for the academy entrance while training for Speedskating, so it was literally nothing for me to do it. I enjoy the challenge.

Mariella nodded, then downed her coffee.

    - Then you should enjoy this posting very much. Please, tell me about yourself.

Ellie paused for a moment, collecting her thoughts before responding.

    - Well, there really isn't all that much to tell. Mom's a member of the Trill chambers, Dad helps out the Colonial Board and sis is in her first year at Starfleet academy. I was the youngest to receive a symbiote in the planet's history. A personal goal of mine is to run the Andorian Ice Sprint.

Mariella simply nodded. She then passed Ellie the PADD after she made an addition to it.

    - I'm appointing you as Chief Science Officer. We could use your skills for Stellar Cartography. I'm also promoting you to Lieutenant Commander.

Ellie blinked rapidly. She wasn't expecting a promotion on her first day. She smiled wider than she thought.

    - Thank you captain! I won't let you down!!

    Earth Time - Midday

    FAB spacer small

Once Schritt left Thane leaned back into his chair and rubbed his face. He had predicted complications in his role as Chief of Security and Tactical but nothing this big or complex. Section 31? The Boogeymen of Starfleet, the people who the Federation denounced but the moment they needed something dirty done, Starfleet looked the other way. Quietly Thane got up and opened a small hidden alcove behind the desk and pulled out a bottle of Ferasan Ale and a Glass. He poured himself a glass and set the bottle back in the Alcove and had a good drink of the stuff. Pure, non replicated. It hit the spot well.

Now it was time to plan and put those plans into action. Thane settled in to erase the recording he had of Schritt and made sure the data nodes were written over repeatedly to leave no trace of it. Once done it was time for the long and menial task of going through reports and planning the next two weeks of training for the various new Junior Officers. Young Danre had training and while he was a prodigy, Thane cared little for that status, as far as he was concerned the kid was an Acting Ensign in name and had to learn the basics from the ground up. No special privileges on his watch!

He laid out the courses from Starfleet’s coursework from the Academy and slipped in some optional reading and tests in between where they could be fit in. These are little things one would not normally encounter amongst Starfleet’s standard training.Such as; Old Romulan Empire ciphers and manuals that are long since out of date from the 23rd century but still great for testing a potential intelligence agent. Signal Analysis and books or treatises from known spies with little tests attached. Passing these did have little rewards attached of course, aside from credits towards more advanced code-breaking qualifications.

    Thane’s Quarters
Earth Time - 4am Earth / Ship Time

    FAB spacer small

The quiet alarm awoke Thane bright and early before shift begins and slowly the big guy stirred from his deep slumber. Company for the night still remained asleep and didn’t stir as Thane slowly slid out and began his morning routine. Shower in real water, after all, nothing beats that feeling of a hot or cool shower and that strange feeling you get when drying off. Then came his hour and a half of physical training, cardio and strength before breakfast which consisted of Eggs Benedict, extra bacon, and an added egg. While eating, Thane considered his options from this point onwards concerning the Section 31 revelation.

    Holodeck Two
Earth Time - 4am Earth / Ship Time

    FAB spacer small

After breakfast Thane headed down to Holodeck Two where he is meeting the first shift security team one half hour before their shift started The Holodeck had been configured to stand as an Armoury with tables and changing rooms. New kits and Starfleet uniforms sat on said tables before each individual security officer. Thane took up a position in front of them at his own little table. “Alright! Team! You are one of several that will be going through this today, while changes like this may normally be done through messages and reports for each member I aim for a more personal touch. With the revelations of the newest threat to the Ares and her crew, as well as my appointment to the Head of Security and Tactical you may have noticed changes going on. Fitness requirement increases and new training regimens. That is just the start.”

“Today we have an equipment update, no this is not Starfleet standard issue due to certain.. Forces potentially acting against us. The first!” He motions to the uniform folded neatly before them. “New uniforms. Visually they are almost identical to the current Ares uniforms, however as some of you may feel there’s a difference in weight and feel of the materials. Through a few friends, we have acquired energy-resistant cloth weave and woven it into both the outer layers of the uniform as well as the under-uniform. This in turn grants the wearer some protection from personal directed energy weapons and some resistance to small blades. It’s not immunity, you will feel the impact, it may burn and multiple shots to the same area will over time render this protection useless. You all will be issued Five uniforms as they are still difficult for the industrial fabricator onboard to replicate. Clean them, reuse them, we do not waste.”

Motioning to the new equipment next to the uniforms. “Along with the uniforms, there’s an adjustment to standard-issue Starfleet equipment. Firstly, new model Hand-Phaser. Not fully released from the Starfleet Armouries into the standard issue. We are trialing two versions, one is your standard Hand Phaser that fires a beam, while the other is a Pulse firing pistol. Additionally, we will be utilizing Phaser Carbines over full rifles for ship defense.” He picks up a Phaser Carbine, similar to a Phaser rifle and the Compression rifle, more compact though. “It fires single and burst pulses, or with a little modification by the Armoury team, fire a single or split beam. These are strictly to be issued to Security and Tactical only. In part due to the limited numbers and..” A grin flashes to the smaller members of the team. “They are more useable for those with a smaller statue of frame. Along with this are the usual kits, emergency response kits, binders…” He shows them each a piece of kit. Then comes to the final piece, a trio of small, golfball sized spheres. “Stun-Spheres. These spheres emit a loud BANG and a bright flash that dazzles the sight and makes the ears ring. Those sensitive to light or sound will be issued protective measures. Do not hold one if you set it off or stare at them when you set the device off. Otherwise.. You’re going to have a bad time. The light emitted is on par with a starburst. Everyone is to be issued with three, they are recyclable so collect them if you can after they are used. Now. Any questions?”

Once this meet was done, Thane dismissed his officers and sent them on their way to duty after getting equipped for their duty or training.
