It's almost like artists and programmers do different jobs or something, or like TTC hasn't done quality of life improvements on his own time before... 🤔

I'd suspect that this probably does tie in to other work that is in flight. They probably are wanting to introduce more big ships and they are probably trying to downscale the TOS stuff as a balance so the new big ships don't have to blot out the screen to make them feel appropriately balanced against existing ships.

I never realized the Atlas was that much bigger than the Connie, I guess this change would make sense IMO

If I'm seeing this. they have time and people to go fix a myriad of other things to bump up quality and make as they should be... my torpedoes for example!

So while there's no shortage of issues and problems needing dealt with, a lot of the ship modelling work is done off the clock so to speak and has at times been the only reason it got done at all.

I prolly only flew the Atlas a handful of times, I never realized the difference either.

And I have nothing but love for them, but I mean the others though just doing the bare min or introducing more bugs than they fix. should just go back and fix or update what's there before introducing more flawed/broked/bugged content/systems

Unless there are some weird quirks with downscaling textures and features on the models, I'd suspect a scaling change to be relatively quick. And in fairness, when it comes to issues with the game, ship art seems to have far fewer bugs than other aspects of the game so they might have a bit more bandwidth for minor tweaking like this compared to the folks dealing with other parts of the game. Unless the next parts of the current season are going to involve some time-travel elements and/or there will be remasters accompanying the rescaling, I get the feeling that this change is a "quick win" to fit Thomas's artistic worldview on ship design more than anything.
