Interesting interview, but felt like Spencer's interviewee is maybe not the main pain point here. Sounds like this person is just flipping items on the market for a profit, which anyone could do. The only "bad" thing here is he or she is using the profits to pick up some premium items and then selling those for real-world profit. It is a TOS violation and reduces some of the supply for those premium items, but the manual processes involved here suggests the overall volume is probably low compared to even a small-time bot farm.

This happens in a lot of games and unfortunately jacks up the price on premium high end must have items/ships etc. The only way to really fight is through the legal system which costs time and money that Cryptic won't ever get in their budgets and I highly doubt Gearbox is going to go to war over it.

Even if that was the case, every time they'd cut off a head another two would take its place.

He might not be the biggest gold seller but if you don't get enought ships out of what he does there is no reason to do it at all.

Just popping this in here rather than making a new thread since it touches on the subject, there appears to have been a massive shift on the exchange recently as most of the backlog has cleared and stuff is going through faster now. I had an exchange order which I put up I think about 10 days ago and it went through this morning, so while we're still some ways off from the instant buy & sell days, we've lurched away from the month+ timeframes.

Not quite sure what's happened to make it shift so suddenly after all this time. Are people just not bothering anymore? Have the gold seller accounts got spooked with the recent highlights and gone to ground to avoid detection? Have they lost their main source of farming with Starbase One? Or has Cryptic quietly swung the ban hammer away from public eyes?

SOB had reported a large Bot Farm, farming Defence of Starbase One and since those Accounts were baned it is going down non stop.

It is impressive to see just how much of an impact this has made. If things don't level off, we might see the exchange fall below the cap by the end of the month. It will be interesting to watch what happens when we reach the end off the 500 dil backlog to see if people try to game the market or if it just continues to fall to a lower exchange rate.

SAB is doing a livestream at the moment, the dilex has apparently crashed to a backlog of about 100K this morning.

Reportedly it has crashed through the 500 per ceiling and is working its way down the lower bids. I figured we still had a week or 2 before we got here, but definitely welcome news.

I was able to sell 12K Zen at 499 should give a nice profit it it continuous.

There is some speculation going on about Cryptic who have told us for the last 2 years that things weren't that simple yet now Spencer has presented tangible, solid evidence and exposed the problem having put the pieces together, 2 weeks go by and things nosedive back towards normality.

Some folks are thinking that they knew this from the very start and have either ignored or deliberately suppressed it in favour of better looking metrics. The problem there is with the business having changed hands, that would be classed as falsely representing the state of the company and that would make it a criminal offence.

Thus we get Cryptic suddenly springing into action, who will probably feign ignorance while trying everything they can to cover their own backsides. Kael downplayed Spencer when it first came to light but the real question is was he just doing his usual job or was it intentional to deflect attention.
