Petty officers log: June 3rd.

Restoration of my great grandfathers tractor to continue. So far I've rewired it front to back, installed new lights and gadgets. Rolled over and started but to my dismay, radiator had a hole in it and had to be sent off to be rebuilt. Just got it back yesterday all new copper like it was back in 1948. Paint has chipped and faded away, and front tires are flat, but with a good engine and electrical, it just needs more tlc. Will follow up later.

I thought that was his personal log chain being he was the only one making logs in it talking about what he was doing. That's why I started my own. Thought it was interesting that he was keeping a log of his adventures.

Petty officers log supplemental.

Polishing a copper radiator is much harder than theorized. Qtips do not fit between the fins, and using a brush or cloth only does the surface. Need to invest in something i can spray on and wash off and hope it doesn't re-tarnish immediately. Google don't fail me now.

Found a solution in a solution. Mixing water, salt, and vinegar I applied it to the tarnished radiator.

I'd have been too worried about further corrosion to use salt water.

My grandfather had a similar looking tractor, minus the blonde whig seen in the first picture

Petty officers log June 5th

Reassembled the tractor. It turned over but did not start. It ran before I had rhe radiator rebuilt. Investigation resulted in the fuel line being clogged with some kind of rubber silicone. Will need replaced. Wondering if the gas sitting in the 80 year old rubber line melted it, given its ancient age. And the blond in the picture is my cousin trying to help me back in April.

Petty officers log June 6th. New fuel line and filter installed. Did some wiring and little things. It started and ran, then died. Blew out fuel filter and it ran again. Rust from the tank is going to be an issue for a little wile. Next is its first oil change in 50 years and to get 2 new front tires. Purrs like she's new again!

Petty officers log june 7th.

With it running I tried to drive it, but means of locomotion are elusive. Looks like a standard stick shift, something I'm very knowledgeable and able to use, but with 3 different pedals in 3 locations, along with a half a dozen levers, I'm unsure on how to get it into gear. i tried everything but nothing acted as a clutch to put in gear. I fear another one of my fathers "good enough" repairs might have become an issue. Long ago he "re-manufactured" a gear using several full tubes of JB weld. I fear it could be broken and be the cause of the latest malfunction.

Petty officers log, June 9th
With ship in dry dock for repairs and refit, I've decided to take this shore leave to further work on restoring my great grandfather's tractor. I drove it out of the weeds and parked it in fresh cut grass. Going to give it it's first oil change in who knows hiw many decades, and top off the water. I'll update the log with pics and or videos later.

Petty officers log supplemental. Replaced all removable bolts and nuts with brand new ones. Figured putting back old rusted ones would be detrimental to any future repairs. Even replaced a few that were lost to time. Did a drive test, just forward and back, getting the hang of of things. Took my youngest son, Luke, with me. Short trip but he was amazed.

Attached is a video log with commentary from my wife, but she made an error. It was my great grandfather's tractor. Needs 2 new front tires before i do any real driving with it. don't want to risk bending a wheel that could be irreplaceable.
