As the familiar background of the Holodeck changes into the Engineering Deck of a Sovereign Class, USS Riptide, Ens. Corelli's combadge and asks him to report to the Observation Lounge at Deck 6.
"Ensign Corelli, Report to the Observation Lounge when you're free."

[Kammus]

Kammus closed his eyes as the simulation changed. The squeal of the phase variance in the EPS system made him gently raise an eyebrow. It was faint, but it was there. "Ugh..." he let out a gentle moan of disgust, "Sovereign class." He could tell by the paneling on the wall, and the decisive lack of vibration in the deck plating. He had never liked the Sovereign class, and really disliked the Odyssey. Still, it wasn't entirely without merit. Spending time on one several years in the past had colored his view to a mixed value; turns out there were some good aspects to the lineage. The nacelle design however, wasn't one of those merits. He tried to shake the image of those boxy triangular monstrosities out of his mind.

Taking time to get his bearings, he swung his head around, taking his torso with it, but keeping his feet planted firmly. Deck 11, section 21A; middle of the ship. The turbolift wasn't far, and soon he found himself headed down the corridor. The simulation offered randomly generated crew, and they always seemed too happy. They weren't usually real people, with real problems. Kammus didn't mind much, he had a mission, and continued on.

The turbolift doors swished closed; "Deck 6", he said directly. The lights on the wall opposite began to undulate their familiar pattern; dark, light, dark, light. Presently Kammus stood outside a door labeled OBSERVATION, and waited. A test was a test, and Starfleet was Starfleet.

He rang the bell, and after the door opened, stepped inside.

"Corelli reporting as ordered, sir".

[Alpenglow]

Entering the Room Kammus saw the Captain and the Chief Engineer conversing on the far corner of the Observation Lounge looking at the stars which looked spaghettified due to travelling at high warp. At the entrance of Corelli the captain and the Chief turn their heads to face the person who had just entered. At seeing the Familiar face of Kammus, the chiefs face showed a sign of slight smile. He came nearer to the table and said,"Ah, Ensign come in. Captain, here is the ensign I was talking about, meet Ensign Corelli." the captain also showed a sign of a slight smile,"So you're the ensign the chief was talking highly of, please pull up a-". Suddenly the ship came out of warp and jerked violently such that the Captain and Chief fell to their knees trying to regain their balance.

When the shaking stopped, the chief tapped his combadge,"Chief to Engineering, What the hell is going down there!?". A reply came from the in-ship comm system "We don't know chief but whatever has blown out relays in Decks 5,13 and 16.We'll dispatch someone to investigate it" Chief replied as soon as the voice stopped, "Hold that thought, Assign Ens.Corelli to it." Chief then made eye contact with Kammus and said that,"We were discussing about giving you more important duties, see this problem as a test. Now, get going, I'll send you the Preliminary report of the damage."


PRELIM DAMAGE REPORT

• 25 Relays Damaged through deck 5 through 16, Relay function: Warp Field Stability and shape maintenance
• 1 console explosion on deck 7, location: EPS connected to the Secondary Warp Field Stabilizer
• Minimal Damage to Warp Core, operational within the hour

[Kammus]

Kammus scrambled to his feet, reeling from the jolt of the ship, and attempting to right the chair he had used to try and secure himself.

Nodding to the Chief Engineer, he a brief nod and quietly said "Aye, Sir", before heading out the door.

He grabbed a random padd from the console outside the observation room, input his personal command codes, and proceeded to download the damage report sent to him by the Chief.

The turbolift ground to a halt near deck 5, and the doors opened about 10 centimeters, just enough for him to put a shoulder in, and force the door open.
"You, crewman, sorry, I'm new here. Anyone injured on this deck?" The teal uniform didn't stop, but made Kammus understand there had been some injuries and that medical staff had been dispatched to treat them.

The corridor was a mess of blackened panels and frayed conduit. He walked over to a nearby storage locker, and collected a tricorder. There were at least 4 relays damaged in his immediate area. He could repair the damage by himself, but the 25 on the report would take time. If he had at least four addtional technicians, the work would be finished a lot quicker, perhaps even under 2 hours. He thought hard to himself for a moment, then reached up and tapped his comm badge.

"Corelli to Chief Engineer..." "Deck 5, section 3 Baker has at least 4 relays damaged. Perhaps as many as 9 on this deck. I can repair and replace, but it would go a lot quicker if any technicians are available to help on the lower decks. I estimate with 5 people, the relays could be repaired in 2 hours."

Kammus didn't wait for a response, but began ripping the corridor wall panel off, what was left of it, to take a closer look at the damage. He needed some tools from a standard kit, which was probably in the damage control locker, and he would need to grab spares from the storage lockers, wherever they were. Ripping the damaged components away from their housing, he could see the obvious signs of EPS overload. Nothing to do but replace the component. Kammus sent his mind into thinking about the console explosion from the secondary wrap field stabilizer. That usually wasn't a system affected by any external force. Something must have impacted the subspace field in such a way that the energy was dissipated back through the EPS flow, in a sort of cascade rarefaction wave.

He shook his head looking at the burnt relay; "Best get to work.".

[Alpenglow]

"You, crewman, sorry, I'm new here. Anyone injured on this deck?" The teal uniform didn't stop, but made Kammus understand there had been some injuries and that medical staff had been dispatched to treat them.

The Crewman who seemed to be stressed out and sweating responds with a annoyed tone,"Figure out yourself,... Sorry, I've been on the edge.Been a long say, 13 are injured in total with 5 in critical condition. The F---ing Conduit exploded in the Astrophysics lab during a very important experiment. Then the crewman had been called back into a room where one can see three or so Medical personnel applying first ais to the people lying on the floor, disoriented some bleeding from the wounds.
The corridor Kammus entered was filled with dense smoke which sank to the bottom of the alleyway. The Temperature and Humidity similar to that of beach near the equator. The hall way had multiple screens turned off, destroyed or just lacking power to turn on, Screens pulsating back to life, then sparking and turning off and going back into its slumber.

"Corelli to Chief Engineer..." "Deck 5, section 3 Baker has at least 4 relays damaged. Perhaps as many as 9 on this deck. The Chief Engineer responded to his mention there is a certain urgency in his voice and a commotion on the Engineering Deck,"Aye Corelli, but I'm not sure who I can spare but I'll route 2 techs your way. Brief them." Soon 2 technicians came near Kammus and asked for orders,"Sir, I was told you were in charge of the Damage Control Efforts, We've noticed that many of the damaged relays were related to the Warp energy output. Best, if you check out the warp fields and stabilizing systems we might've hit a subspace "bump" of sorts which may have disrupted the warp bubble or perhaps the mixture was off .Anyways, what are your orders, sir?"

[Kammus]

Kammus listened to the technicians suggest there was a warp bubble instability. His mind raced ahead of their dialogue.

"Well, whatever the issue, we can't fix an unstable warp field here. Lets do our job. Cut power to this section and lets restore basic functions. Bypass damaged components as needed. Environmental controls are primary. Once the corridors are clear of fire and smoke, then we can start to assess the damage"

Soon, there was a cheer from the technician working at the end of the hall. The smoke started to clear and Kammus could finally see them, wearing a breathing mask trying to smile. The corridor was badly damaged, but there were no surprises.

"Right you two, lets get to Deck 7, Astrometrics"

The team found themselves forcing the door open to the Astrometrics lab. What used to be the primary computer control on the right wall was now a hole 2 meters high. Exposed EPS manafolds were melted and fused.

Kammus shook his head and let out a sigh. "Lets pull it apart. Cut power to this section first, don't want any more excitement". He grabbed his tricorder and began scanning the damaged area.

"Corelli to Engineering...."

"Looks like there was subspace instability in the secondary warp field matrix stabilizer. Maybe there was damage to subspace the computer didn't detect? Maybe it was Romulans... its always Romulans. Anyway, we'll try to fix it, but I wouldn't reinitialize the warp field until we're finished.".

Kammus grasped both hands around the matrix stabilizer and pulled hard. He fell on the floor with a thud, as the final few sparks of energy gave up their power.
