PC Captains can get double the upgrade points this weekend!

Still striving to get the greatest performance out of your equipment? This weekend will be the perfect time to apply Tech Upgrades to your gear, as we’re doubling the amount of Technology Points earned from each one applied!

From September 29th at 10AM PDT (19:00 CEST) to October 3rd at 10AM PDT (19:00 CEST), every Tech Upgrade used will apply twice as many Technology Points toward your next Upgrade! This in turn reduces the amount of Dilithium that must be spent to reach each Upgrade threshold, allowing Captains additional chances to attain both Mark and Rarity increases on their favored load outs.

Given this are there any gotchas or ways of upgrading things newbies should be aware of before they make mistakes?

Given this are there any gotchas or ways of upgrading things newbies should be aware of before they make mistakes?

Upgrade low mk stuff first, this means it jumps through a lot more increases in tier before getting to max meaning more chance of a rarity increase.

So for example start with a Mk II Phaser Array and work it up to a Mk XV. That gives it 13 Mk tier jumps at a chance for a rarity upgrade, if you start with a VR item it'll hopefully be UR by the end at least.

Can't do this with every item though as some rewards etc only start at Mk XII.

Also, use this event to upgrade big items like Engine, Deflector, Shield, Core as a priority as they need the most points to move up a tier. Might as well make those bonus points from the event work for you!
Basic things like tac consoles are fairly easy to upgrade even outside of an event.

Also, the Temporal Recruit rewards have a reward that gives all rep gear a boost to UR when you buy it from rep projects; that's worth it as a start point if you have access to it.

It is also worth noting that if you are looking at opening lockbox weapon boxes, open it on a lower-level toon, then move it over to whatever toon you actually want to use it on. Otherwise, you can often pick up Mk II items for relatively cheap off the exchange.

As Sul-Matuul noted, the game rolls for a rarity upgrade chance every time you fill the tech point gauge. On a low-level item, strong tech upgrade like the Phoenix box upgrades or the Omega upgrades will have several chances to roll for a quality upgrade with a single upgrade token. Once an item gets up to Mk XII or higher, it will often take multiple upgrade tokens to fill the tech point gauge, so you end up spending a lot more dilithium to chase quality upgrades on an already high level item.
