Speaking of rewatching Trek, i watched Encounter at Farpoint last night for the first time in years.

Good lord it is cringe-worthy in places! Shockingly bad acting, wonky looking costumes and sets, really poor camera work in places, spends too much time on gimmicky things like the saucer separation.

Man, TNG REALLY had an uphill struggle on its hands after those early episodes! But look what it became!

That was pretty much TNG in a nutshell, alongside DS9. The first season was a shoddy state of affairs with some real low points, Season 2 started to show some flashes of brilliance mixed in with the lows and it wasn't until Season 3 that both shows found their feet.

On a side note, they originally intended for the saucer separation to be a regular thing, but the cost of doing it compared to their budget and the sequence slowing down the action meant it got pushed into the background and was rarely used afterwards, though it was mentioned in several episodes.

Perhaps as a nod to the hat of that rarely being used, when the Enterprise-D separates in Generations, you can see particles of dust and debris flying out from the join as the saucer starts to clear the engineering hull.

I mean, Discovery ticks the boxes on a lot of those as well! The camera is terrible in Discovery, worst angles I have seen, and why does it need to spin so much, and wobble, and tilt? Just keep it still! The acting isn't great, Tillys friend, awful acting, and some of the other cast have been wooden, and you have that gimmick of the spore drive. Costumes, I suppose they have done well on that, except the drastic change to Klingons, which made no sense, and the sets are nice, but too advanced looking for the time they are setting themselves.

Discovery has a lot of problems it could have fixed by setting itself at the end of the prime timeline shown on screen.

Anyway, none of this has anything to do with the rewatchability of Discovery, it's a massive deviation from the topic at hand. I can't really see myself rewatching Discovery, mostly because Burnham, and also because it's one long story.

I would also say that the particles and dust/debris is also just like "blowing the bolts" when separation occurs. Obviously not an action meant for everyday use and I'm sure maintenance is needed after such an event like that afterwards. It did give a good tactical advantage in "Best of Both Worlds I / II" to distract Picard for the away team to snatch-and-grab him...

I have never watched one single episode of DSC, is it worth to watch at least one run through? I'm not willing to pay for "All Access" just to see it... But is it worth my time?
