Whilst a Holodeck is still a very far way away, Oculus has been making amazing progress creating real environments for its users to explore. Oculus Rift started out as a Kickstarter campaign soliciting more than $2 Million Dollars in donations promising backers a 3d experience designed primarily for gaming.

Oculus has been making headlines over the past few weeks, perhaps it's most noteworthy include its controversial buyout by Facebook, allowing a terminally ill patient have one last stroll outside , and now it's entrance to the 24th century, where users are allowed to tour the infamous U.S.S. Voyager.

Designed by Oculus Rift Developer Tmek, users are able to tour the most seen area of Voyager, it's bridge. When "walking" around the beautifully designed room, you are able to hear genuine sound effects pulled from Star Trek: Voyager's seven seasons of episodes. Voices can be heard while walking around. Sadly, there are no non-player characters at this time.

A demo of this mod can be found below.

Many think Oculus is the future for Video Games and other broadcast entertainment, what do you think? Post in the comments!

When I was at Gamescom in Köln last year I saw a Oculus Rift stand. I didn't line up for three reasons 1. I thought that it was a gimmick, 2. The line was far too long and 3. I wanted to go to the bar (Deutscher bier ist die beste).

Looking at this Voyager bridge video, I kind of regret it now. Cry
