Star Trek Armada 3 Mod: A Call To Arms Released!

In what is an exciting day for Star Trek real-time strategy gamers, the development team of the original 'Star Trek Armada 3' mod for Sins of a Solar Empire, have announced the release of 'A Call To Arms'. The mod, which is set during the Dominion War period, allows users to choose one of five factions, thanks to the addition of a new Cardassian/Dominion race. The developers are keen to stress though, that while the game is set during this period, the mod is taking its own turn of events that will no doubt surprise fans. What perhaps some might say is a particularly nice touch, is that the developers have put together a guide for Federation players which gives a justifiably good overview of the various ships and stations available in the game.

By and large, it's come quite a way since the original mod was released earlier this year in February.

However, because the mod has truly stretched the limits of the original game (Sins), the team admit that it's unlikely fans will see new content arriving into the mod anytime soon. That said, they say there's a surprise announcement coming soon which is no doubt already getting the toes tingling for some.

Ok, I spent 3 hours playing with the mod last night and this is awesome! I love that they chose Maquis to serve as the Pirate faction in the game. The VO and sound effects all come together really well too.

Its pretty impressive. A number of us have been playing it over the last couple of days, and we're all very impressed.

The Borg are still majorly OP though, and if they get the Locutus Cube, you've absolutely had it. There's no way to kill it. Begotten, Solace and I had a combined Klingon/Romulan/Federation Fleet at a bottle-neck system, with three upgraded Starbase citadels, and the Borg sent in a pretty reasonable fleet - not massive, but it contained several heroes, and they wiped out a combined fleet of about 200 ships - most of which were capital class, hero class or Dreadnoughts. What was even more depressing was that the Borg assimilated quite a few of our ships, and turned them against us on the rebound! That forced the three of us to basically capitulate, as we had no fleets, and no resources to rebuild fast enough.

It was a huge amount of fun!

Indeed it was fun! Its true to what Star Trek depicts the Borg as being ultra powerful, but I think the Heroes need a bit of a nerf or at least allow the Klingon Shockwave weapon to insta kill things like locutus but to offset that balance increase the cost to build the weapon?

Still was hell of lot of fun! Big Grin

That seams to be about right of the power level on a ship like that, during the last version i played, which I admit has been awhile. I found that a lot of the capital ship abilities do the most to debuff the borg ships is the best way to kill them. Also if a battle is not going your way, it's better just to pull out and come back after you repair, throwing away ships and up hurting you more, and the ai tends to colonize planets slower than players so you can come back and more than likely retake you planet. Shadow class rommy ships do a lot of work and the harriers have a very powerful debuff.

I don't play the other factions as much Smile
