Liam McIntyre, best known for portraying Spartacus in Starz's Spartacus: Vengence and Spartacus: War of the Damned, has commenced voice acting work for Star Trek Online.

According to a Twitter post from @Cryptic_Kestrel (aka Christine Thompson, a writer for Star Trek Online) Mr. McIntyre has already begun recording, perhaps lending his considerable acting expertise to STO's forthcoming Season 10.

In addition to Spartacus and Star Trek Online, according to IMDb McIntyre's filmography includes guest spots on television's The Flash, playing Mark Mardon/The Weather Wizard in its continuation of Season 1 due later this month, plus new crime drama Winter which was released in McIntyre's native homeland of Australia last month. He also made his feature-film debut as Sotiris in The Legend of Hercules last year.

Other voice talent recruited for Star Trek Online most recently included cast members of Voyager for Delta Rising, such as Tim Russ (Tuvok), Garrett Wang (Harry Kim), Ethan Philips (Neelix), Robert Picardo (The Doctor) and Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine).

Rewinding back to 2010, the late Leonard Nimoy would offer congratulations on attaining a new rank while Zachary Quinto helps you find your feet during STO's tutorial. Chase Masterson as Leeta would instruct you on how to win (or lose) at Dabo, and in 2013 cast members of The Next Generation's Denise Crosby (playing both Tasha Yar and Sela) and Michael Dorn lent their voices to episode missions plus their own congratulations on receiving a new rank.

UPDATE: 26 March, 2015: According to IMDB, he has been cast as the Klingon Chancellor J'mpok and a Romulan named Subcommander Kail.

What are your thoughts on this recent addition to Star Trek: Online's growing cast?

I'm ambivalent about this announcement. I think it's great that STO has added so much of Star Trek talent to the VO, but I really wish that Cryptic would have spent this money on bug fixes and quality of life improvements instead. I think bug fixes would go much farther toward retaining existing players as well as bringing new players into the game.

Personally, I think it's always a good step when a developer places emphasis on the experience of the story (aka having voices in the first place and more so proven actors). Good catch for Cryptic I suppose.

I'd like to see some of the DS9 cast do some voice overs for some of the DS9 content...maybe a feature season again with some additions? I don't know, but I do like the fact they are adding more voice overs and quality actors.

Man I came here just to post that. Weird thing is J'mpok was originally voiced by Jon St. John and Subcommander Kail's original voice was widely criticized as extremely annoying.

I've been trying to find the temporal officer but it's not the guy from the shield or Daniels, unless they just haven't had it put on their page.
