For gamers who are attracted more towards consoles than the PC, they will soon be able to enjoy Star Trek Online this coming Autumn! No specific date has been set out, but keep your eye out if this is something that interests you, and with the gaming coming to console, there will be the six years of content updates, including the featured episodes. All of this content will be free, just as it is for PC players, which may also include the C-Store.

There have been a number of changes to the graphics made while moving the game over to consoles, including using different lighting methods, using what they had learnt from moving Neverwinter over to consoles, PWE and Cryptic will no doubt be hoping for the same success. The biggest challenge they obviously face is the controls, moving all the current options onto a 12 button controller, this was the first part of the project they worked on to get right. The control method will make or break the port of STO to consoles.

You can view the official announcement trailer below.

The official announcement has not yet stated if it will be cross-platform or if existing accounts and purchases will work, but we will keep you updated on this. If the game won't be cross-platform, that will raise many problematic situations for organised fleets, or players wanting to try and play with what they have on a console, rather than starting again. But from what I understand, Neverwinter isn't cross-platform, so the odds aren't looking good.

What do you think of this development? Would you be interested in playing STO on a PS4 or XBoxOne?

Depends on if my life time sub and purchases carry over.

If the mac version was always so bugged and was apparently to difficult to manage they pulled it, why are they pushing out console versions.

It is quite interesting that this is coming to X1 and PS4, considering that you wouldn't've thought they would be able to do this.

Didn't realize we had an official thread for this, my bad. I find it interesting that they managed to get both X1 and PS4 to do this. It makes even more sense as to why they have done the latest expansion of Agents of Yesterday, because now you can get people to jump into the game as the TOS faction and they won't feel like they are missing out on the story line. They get to jump into the story line at its current date and get to experience the universe as it is happening, rather than jumping in and going "okay, what did I miss".

Well hopefully all of this work to get STO to work on consoles will filter down to the PC version as it said in the article. I have always been aprehensive about MMO's on console mainly because of the limited interface of a controller compared to a keyboard/mouse combo.

I literally just logged into FB & saw that. Immediately started to do the Happy Dance!!

I'm hoping for a more detailed dev post regarding the technical details. Will PC become multi-core because of this, will the game progress be shared between PC and consoles or will they be completely separated and run of different shards? Let's see what happens.

If the Xbone and Ps4 can handle Elder Scrolls Online and FFXIV, it can more than handle STO.

keyboard/mouse combo.
Let's just hope the don't axe the chat box like they did on ESO.

How so? The ps4 and Xbone are capable of running graphically demanding games like ESO and FFXIV, there's no reason that STO, a game that predates them both, couldn't be run as well.

I do expect 60fps @720p though, 30fps @1080p.

I'm also waiting to hear if my purchases carry over. I have a lifetime sub and several hundred dollars invested in ships and unlocks, I won't play on console if I don't have access to them. Could care less about transferring my toons over, I just want the stuff I paid for.

I'm kinda wondering the same thing. I don't have as much as you invested, but I'd love to have my ship carry over. I love me Excelsior!!

I'm literally so exited for this! Do you know if it'll have to be paid for or whether it will be free??? I want it like now!!!!!!!!

Will there be a ST:O Xbox division or be integrated into the ST:O PC division?

I dont see that happening its not just Xbox but Playstation as well three Divisions for one game seems a bit over the top and not needed.

Best Outcome you can all hope for is maybe Supervisors but my question would still be if you can play it on X1 or PS then you can play it on a Desktop the game system requirements are not that bad.

No this seems to me like a last ditch effort to make more money I have noticed over the last few months how the game has been slipping in members plus content is not what it once was, yes the new TOS thing looks cool and I hope it helps them get back on there feet but STO has come a long way to what it once was of some what normality or content and story's to what we have now is time travel and conflict after conflict to quote the man.

"Does anyone remember when we used to be explorers"

Lock boxes am sure still make them Money but not as much as before so again last ditch effort in my opinion and if that fails then god only knows what they will do next to make money.

See am sitting here thinking of Xbox and Playstation store Purchases you know those kids that run up there parents credit cards or spend all there pocket money on Fifa Points to buy new players.

Apparently, the saying goes that this is the big reveal and nothing else is coming at FedCon.

Color me disappointed. I wanted more.

I'm looking forward to what they'll be releasing at E3, I'm pretty sure it's gong to be more on what's to come here and in the next expac. Exciting times to be apart of the STO Community.

Never thought I would see the day STO would go to console will probably try it just to see what it's like and how it plays.

Years ago they did mention a console port but without any news for a while it sounded like they had dropped it. I think the trailer was a bit disappointing, the Free to Play one from a few years back seemed far superior. Watching the trailer just doesn't make me think "wow I need to play that!".

For those asking about how progress between PC and console would translate it would all depend on whether they set up separate servers for consoles or not. Microsoft have been keen to have cross platform play between PC, Xbox and Playstation but Sony haven't been so willing to play ball.

If they do shared servers then I expect you would log in to the same account or tie your PWE account to your Xbox Live or PSN account. If they do separate servers than I imagine you will still probably use the same account but you will have certain characters on certain servers which I'm sure PWE might allow you to transfer for a small fee.

I can't see STO pulling in massive numbers on each console so cross platform would seem to make more sense especially given how long you can sit in a queue for some of the PvE content on PC.

It's confirmed to be a separate server. No word on if existing accounts would get anything transferred over.
Sat 14 May, 2016 3:41 PM
I'm an Xbox one player above PC so this is massively exciting for me to have it in console format and is something I have literally craved for, I can't wait to get some UFP events for Xbox ST:O on the way!

I think they are doing separate servers to start with, so that the Xbone and P4 people don't have to deal with us ubermachts telling them how to play. Not only that, but by having them separate than us, they'll be able to fine tune the console gameplay without having us PC players go "what about us".

Eventually the separate servers will be rolled into a single entity, like with what happened in DCUO. Though DCUO probably did that because the numbers were terrible.

As for existings accounts, they probably might be transferred over, because they would need you to have an arc account, to keep track of sales and to make sure that when everyone is together, they all have different names. This will also mean more money to Cryptic, and in return, more money spent towards the game, Because after all, console people love their shinies... And frankly, if those new enhancements to the engine are anything to go by, I'm very damn happy.

Overall, I like this announcement. I do wish there was more to it than just consoles, but looking at the bigger picture, we've got a lot of fun ahead of us.

Didn't realize we had an official thread for this, my bad.
Duplicate threads have been merged to keep the discussion centralized.

Personally, I'm torn on the issue as I find that I am spending more time on my xbone these days than my gaming PC, but I haven't been enamored with game dev decisions for awhile so it will be a tough sell for me to pick it up on another platform again. I wonder if they'll offer existing lifers any perks?
Thu 26 May, 2016 3:55 AM
My biggest worry is that the lifers and the ship buys wont transfer. With all packs and such considered, I'm probably close to $1k in purchases. Not too keen to redo all that. But if my progress is transferable between PS4 and PC then I would play.

I've logged in off and on over the last... oh... 5 years or so. I really enjoy being a casual player. For me, I guess, I'm going to enjoy seeing more folks in the game whenever I pop in... Smile

Wish they'd give an actual release date for this :-(
Tue 21 Jun, 2016 2:35 PM
The word around reddit for the last month is that the devs have repeatedly stated "clean slate" in discussions, so the consensus is that nothing should transfer.
