Scotty, beer me up!

Star Trek anniversary beers announced.

Just yesterday in the article about Star Trek Adventures I made a comment about CBS having started slowly with the 50th anniversary but finally starting to hit their stride with announcements.

Now we have yet another new product range celebrating Star Trek's 50th anniversary, a pair of beers from the American Craft brewing business Shmaltz Brewing Company, the brewers best known for producing the award winning line of HE'BREW Beers and formerly the Coney Island Beer.

VulcanAleShmaltz have already released Vulcan Ale.Two limited-edition ales, Golden Anniversary Ale: The Trouble With Tribbles and Golden Anniversary Ale: Voyage To The Northeast Quadrant will be available soon for the 50th anniversary and both should be making a debut at ComicCon this week. Interestingly enough these aren't the first officially licensed Star Trek beers produced in the U.S. Shmaltz also released a Vulcan Ale "RED SESSION IPA", earlier this year.

Golden Anniversary Ale: The Trouble With Tribbles (5 Malts, 5 Hops, 5% ABV) will also be available at Star Trek Las Vegas from the 3rd to the 7th of August 2016, with the beer being designed to answer the question “Who put the Tribbles in the quadro-Triticale” in honour of the famous “The Trouble With Tribbles” episode. "While there is such a thing as Triticale — it’s a hybrid of wheat (Triticum) and rye (Secale) first bred during the late 19th Century in Scotland and Sweden, the “quadro” part of the name was made up for the TV show."

“The Triticale should contribute flavor more distinct than wheat but less spicy than rye. Light Carastan malt will give some residual sweetness in the form of very light toffee. A dose of Munich will add a slight bready quality. Wheat malt will add a slight crisp character. Mashing at a moderate temperature will give this beer a medium body. In keeping with the intergalactic theme, hopping will be comprised of Comet, Galaxy, Polaris, Aurora and Admiral (Kirk) hops. Admiral and Comet will be used in the boil. Galaxy, Polaris and Aurora will be used as flavor hops contributing floral, mint, pine and tropical fruit flavors.”

Later this year, Shmaltz will debut their Golden Anniversary Ale: Voyage to the Northeast Quadrant at the inaugural Mission New York Star Trek convention between the 2nd and the 4th of September 2016 at the Javits Center in New York although at the moment Shmaltz haven't gone in to quite as much detail about the content or lore of Golden Anniversary Ale: Voyage To The Northeast Quadrant but hopefully it will be just as inventive.

Are you interested in trying some Star Trek beverages? Did they miss a trick in not bringing back Romulan Ale? Is Vulcan Ale logical?

I'm sure they did an energy drink of Romulan ale (see link below), but it was only sold in the US. Cry

It was nice but its not something you could drink a lot of I remember buzzing like a tribble! Tribble3 Smile

In answer to the question, yes I would love to see more Trek themed beverages, definitely a market that they have not explored enough.

You're quite right they did, that's why I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be any announcement of it making a comeback.

I can understand why it didn't take off previously but with the energy drink market that is around today, surely it would be a more financially stable investment now, I hope it does get a re-launch I loved it, just used to cost be £3 a can!

Pity it looks like they are a U.S. release only, will definitely give them a try if I ever encounter them.

Tell ya what Chris...if it shows up in my area, I'll grab some for you, and ship it if I can.

Not a huge fan of American pale ales, I also believe most of the value of this is going to be a collectors item and not a beverage to enjoy.
