In Ticonderoga, New York, you can find yourself back aboard the NCC-1701. James Cawley, an Elvis Impersonator, has finally open the culmination of a decades long dream. In an interview with the local ABC news affiliate, James said, "I don’t want to convince you that you are on a space ship, but that you’re on a sound stage in 1966.”

The details are amazing. Cawley has been able to go far and wide looking for exactly the right items to recreate these venerable locations. When it came to the lights, knobs, and dials that cover each control board, Cawley would follow the original designers instructions, “They would make rubber molds of marbles and fill them; pop it out,” Cawley described. “These are corners of ice cube trays.”

Within these so beloved pieces of shared history, Cawley saw not only the beauty of the sets themselves but the beauty of what the cast and crew were accomplishing all those years ago. “Look at the cast,” he said. “They were doing things the real world was not doing. Star Trek speaks to so many people for so many reasons, but ultimately, it’s hopeful and optimistic.”

TOS sets have always been the most colourful, more fun looking! Not really suited for a space ship though Tongue Out

Oh, how I wish I could afford a trip to New York. I was lucky enough to get to The Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas before it was shut down and got to sit in the captain's chair on the Enterprise-D's bridge. I've love to be able to stand on the TOS bridge as well.

Edit: By the way, it's hilarious to see the use of color. It's a reminder to me of how the television studios went crazy when color TV was first publicly available. And, yes, the first TV I watched was black and white. I still remember my father teaching me how to remove the back of the TV and change out the vacuum tubes when they burned out.
