Gameplay Review of Star Trek - Bridge Crew

A recent review of the new VR game by UbiSoft, Star Trek Bridge Crew

Ian Hamilton of UploadVR recently paid a visit to UbiSoft's production facility to try out the much anticipated and raved about game, Star Trek - Bridge Crew.

Bridge Crew allows the player, and up to three of your friends, to completely immerse yourself into the Star Trek universe by playing as a member of the crew aboard a starship. You pick which position you want to play as; Captain, Engineer, Tactical, Conn, Science, etc - and then you and your friends command your ship, either a craft from the expanded JJ Abrams universe, or even the original Enterprise from TOS, through a series of missions as you manage your way through the game.

As a total immersion game, it's still not quite fully there yet, as its still using the clunky technology of the TOS/JJ universe, so there's a lot of hand-sliding and button pushing to do to get things to work. Obviously not being TNG+, there's no LCARS or voice interface for commands, and the game itself is merely a tactical simulator - so there's no exploration or planet hopping involved, just saving ships in distress and blowing up an array of virtual baddies from that era. That being said, it's the first true VR game of its type in the Star Trek Genre, and as a platform to work upon, its definitely one to support.

The game itself is set for release at the end of May this year, and I imagine that the player base for this game will be fairly limited, as you'll have to invest in a full VR set for each person you want to play with, and those people have to be in the same room as you (for the moment at least!).

Have a look at the 12 minute playthrough by Ian Hamilton, which can be found in the YouTube video link below.

What are your thoughts on Bridge Crew? Is it a game you want to try? Tell us in the comments below!
