Champion of Earth - A Very Simple Card Game

Shades of Vengeance have released a very simple and colourful card game, Champion of Earth, but will you be the champion?

Around this time last year, I wrote about a previous game by Shades of Vengeance that I had played at the MCM Comic Con. This time, they had a new game out, a card game, which is deviously simple to play, with cards that have bright colours and interesting names, some of the references, you should get, others might be more of a challenge, but that's another way you might decide to play!

Size: 38.8 KBThe aim of the game is simple, gain as many kills as you can before you die or the equipment runs out and you die. There are cards which can steal kills from other players, such as one of my favourites, "Just Making Sure", these types of cards will say "Interrupt" on them.

By the end of the game, whoever has gained the most kills will be declared the Champion of Earth and every other player has to buy them a drink (in my rules anyway, not the official ones!), if you have a table top night, a game like this is good to start things off or inbetween games because it is so fast.

Now the game is set for 1 to 6 players, so yes, you can play this game by yourself, defiantly a way to pass the time. However you can't really have banter with yourself or play a card to screw yourself over, unless you are feeling a bit masochistic.

I originally saw the game on Kickstarter and not the Comic Con, I did pick up my pack from the stand though, in which it was opened and played with on the day. The character you pick does not have any special power, it's all about the equipment and how you use it, but my win rate with Sakura the Ninja was 4 our of 5 games, so clearly the best character to pick.

The general gist of the rules is that you pick your Sakura character, you start with 1 equipment card and then on your turn, you ask how much more equipment you want, between 1 and 3, that number of monsters are added from the cave to the field, or hoard. With 5 or less monsters in the hoard, you don't have to attack any, but you can. Anymore than 5 and you have to attack the difference, or more if you have the cards!

You attack them in order that they appeared, you play your equipment in that order and if your number is the same, or higher than the monster, then you get the kill. If you can't kill a monster, you take damage, by flipping your character card over, next hit and you are dead. Although the Kickstarter expansion adds 2 medic cards to the equipment, so if you got that, then you can, yay!

Currently, the game is not on their store for purchase yet, however I will update this post and let you all know when it does become available at a store. Keep an eye on our Twitter to be updated!
